I was picking up the ‘why don’t Shimano do a 1x groupset’ argument from further up.

If the remove the front derailleur, I won’t have any home mechanic skills as far as gears go. Indexing rear mechs is basically witchcraft.

The pro technique:
1. shift to top gear/smallest sprocket
2. detach cable
3. adjust limit screw until the chain just shifts onto second smallest sprocket
4. reattach cable at normal human hand tension (don't use a cable puller and be gentle if you're the Hulk)
5. readjust limit screw
It should be nearly perfectly indexed.

I much prefer doing the rear than the front (chortle)
