That is awesome! If that works, cheap solution in the works..

As you can buy the 48/32t chainring on their own, it may be possible to just fit that on a normal 110BCD chainset, as the 32t chainring's bolt isn't standard which is why it's possible to go down to a 32t, but the praxis work chainring appear to have a norminal 110BCD mount.
Will order one in to see if I can fit the praxis work chainring on my sora chainset.
Lastly, the FSA offering isn't a bad choice if you get over the brand snobbery, they do a 46/30 in square taper for cheap;

And all becomes clear! Thanks for the explanation.
So I reckon this should work if I've understood you... Dura ace 9000 shifters, Ultegra medium cage rd 6800/r8000, 11-34t cassette, 10sp hub

Let me know how you get on with that praxis bodge! I think the only drawback on that fsa crankset (beside the looks) is that is it 9 speed specific - would it play nicely with 10 speed or 11?

Is there a half decent, budget chainring to put on a Rival 1 crank with hidden bolt (110BCD).
Need a 46t. Trying to workout if it's better to sell a 52/36 or swap the 52 ring but from looking around it almost seems better to buy/sell the entire crank. -

Re: R7000 groupset, I find it amazing that Shimano haven't released a decent 'gravel'/CX specific 1x groupset with hydro braking and c.42t casette, especially as it would only take adapting the cable pull on the existing designs. Surely they must be losing a big chunk of this market to Sram by now.
-
• #6384
The vast majority of bikes sold are not gravel or CX bikes though. Nearly all otp cheaper bikes come with some form of Shimano, I reckon the portion of their business for selling individual groupsets is much less than OEM to manufacturers, let alone one niche section of cycling
-
• #6385
Would be interesting to see profit margins of each groupset, Shimano must be shifting stupid quantities of the low to mid range groupsets.
-
• #6386
...and the weird/unique bcd which ties you to (potential rare) aftermarket fsa chainrings
-
• #6387
Surely groupset specs drive sales to an extent. Anecdotal I know, but the number of CDFs/do-it-all bikes you see about I figure it must be worth the small amount of R&D, if only to retain market dominance at all levels.

• #6388
Literally all they'd have to do is design a derailleur that clears an MTB cassette with road cable pull. (And maybe a clutch mech version for 1x.) The R&D is minimal. There's got to be some very significant reason that they don't want to do it.

Technically it shouldn’t work, but the 9 speed chainset work well with 10 speed, can’t says about 11 speed thought.
-
• #6390
11/34 with 50/34 is decent for the average “gravel” user, especially since gravel bike tend to have 11/32 with 48/32.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this but...
Am I missing something here? Aero chainset that only goes up to 44t.
That’s not going to excite the testers much is it?

3T own THM now don't they?

Maybe they'll bundle them with the Exploro framesets

Paired up with one of their 9t sprockets/cassettes you get a bigger gear than 52/11
Edit: https://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/article/3t-cassette-50278/
For example, a 36t ring with one of the new cassettes offers very similar range to a 48/32 crank and 12-30 cassette combo.
A 40t ring would give you a similar range to a 50/36 crank and an 11-29 cassette, while a 44t would be equivalent to a 54/39 and 11-28 setup, which would mean a massive 158in gear on 25mm tyres.

1x solves a problem that I’ve never had with the trade off that you’ll never be in the right gear.
Couple of watts of aero gain at most?

Please, not another 1x debate

All we need now are affordable 9-3x cassettes but it's been raised before and they are apparently coming.
Yep, like the ones that @daveaa posted
