Sea to summit ultralight might be a good mid-price option, £80, 395g and a 7.5 x 17 cm pack size. Not insulated but smallest pack size I've seen and still has 5cm depth. Found a good comparison here, recon the Xlite is probably better for a side sleeper. Maybe worth the extra £30 in the long run..

If you're going mid price, just go full price.
Either bargain basement, or proper job. Middle ground is waste of money.

I have the Forclaz cheapy one and its good , the only annoyance is the valve which you have to hold open whilst deflating , other than that its not let me down yet.

Anyone care to recommend me a great quilt? Something that's light, packs small, gives ample room to move around. Happy to invest a bit as long as it's good stuff.

Katabatic make the only great quilts out there.
I have the Palisade and cannot recommend highly enough!

and there's one on ebay rn for a good price, if it fits your size
-

Oh, thanks for that. Leg area looks very mummy-like, in the pics it looks narrow and long, almost knee-height. Can you actually move around in that?
-
• #410
yep, a lot. you can cinch it down when it's cold or open it right out with the straps when it's hot.
here's a good review which shows how it works with the pad attachment.

This is a review of my sleep system
This always makes me laugh. It's a quilt and a mat tied together with string; "system" is pushing it
-
• #412
Gosh, that thermarest is noisy

Someone listed the alpkit one for 50notes on bike&bivi fb group (i think, too many groupz) yesterday... might still be available.
-

they're really noisy when new, as the insulation material crinkles with use they quiet down loads
-
• #415
they're surprisingly good for the price, but annoyingly only useful with another sleeping bag inside/outside, or if it's warmer than 8ºC or so, which is not very often!

My sleep system for TCR was a plastic bag and various bus stops.
-
• #417
Specs/price on the plastic bag? I've been using Lidl binbags, looking to upgrade

But but but
We'll be exhausted from averaging gruelling 70km a day and relentless sightseeing. We'll need a good night's rest, you see.

They're on sale, and I really like the company. Unfortunately their quilts have little reviews, and the ones I found are discouraging.
Katabatic Flex seems to be exactly what I'm after. Like the Palaside above, but with zippable foot area

You don't want to know what I paid for my soopadoopa plastic bag.

Can't instagram that
well that's one way of looking at it. in this case weight doesn't add reliability, sadly.
