It's TB1, I'll just plug the TB cable from monitor 1 into monitor 2, no?
In the short term, my (hopefully repaired) late 2011 MBP will probably struggle, once I get some cash together for an upgrade I should be ok... It's overkill but will be very nice to have a monitor for tools/palettes/email/browser/etc and another for actual work, Logic X, CC, etc...
And my office/studio will look a bit more like a spaceship... Which is ace...

Anyone fancy my Sonnet Breakaway box for Ā£225? Egpu now officially supported in .4.

eGPU question:
If it can get my MBP fixed, which shouldn't be too much of a problem, will I be able to get an eGPU to run on a TB1 MBP in High Sierra? When I finally upgrade my machine I'd like to be able to use it with that too... After some light reading on the Google I see reports that an AMD RX580 with a TB1>TB3 adaptor might do the job...
Anyone know? I haven't checked prices yet, don't know if it makes financial sense to go for this route but just doing some research...

Yeah I know. TB1 and TB 2 was blocked in the latest released but a script to unblock was put together yesterday and distro'd.
Only prob you may have is with your TB2 monitors as you can't connect them to an eGPU.

And financial sense, for your 2011, prob not, you could build a PC for the same...

Still tempted by a basic 13" MBP now that eGPUs are officially official.

So the new Mac Pro is confirmed for 2019. Let's hope not December 2019...
What do you think the odds are they'll wildly mis-judge the requirements and try to do something completely wild again?
All they really need to do is release a nice-looking, well-spec'd mid-tower with a couple of PCI-E slots and tons of Thunderbolt ports and price it aggressively (like the OG Mac Pro). -

Can but dream...
I'm thinking eGPU is a part of it too, its too much of a niche market to invest in that tech otherwise IMO.

Monitor all packed up, perfect fit... Many layers of bubble wrap and cardboard, lots of cardboard crumple zones on the edges... Fingers crossed!

Bet it breaks again.

You bought a new MacBook, node lite, and 1050ti yet?

Haha, not quite yet. Waiting for logic board number two to pack-in on my 2011...

So I'm about to become a mac owner, buying a friends mac mini to do basic photo editing (lightroom), run a slide show and web browsing.
It's the top of the range model and I believe has 8gb of RAM, I don't think its easy to upgrade as it's the later model but I wondered if anyone had managed to upgrade it and what the maximum RAM I could squeeze in there would be?

Check ifixit.com for guides and uk.crucial.com/gbr/en for memory

Sounds like this soldered RAM is just not upgradeable.

Some may remember me buying a MacBook Pro last year, it turns out that Iām such an enthusiastic typist that the black surface of the keys is coming away- would this be something Apple would be interested in fixing, or would I be on my own here?

It was June last year, for reference.
No issues as long as your graphics card can handle it. TB cables are expensive though, beware. Shit starts to get crazy when you need TB2 to TB3
