  • looks like they won't ship outside the uk, at least through the ebay store.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Evans ship within the EU through their website?

guess the sale is only for uk customers, meh meh meh

have been considering this for my sscx if i want to convert to gears - bit spendy but no cables, no messing with levers, can use any rear derailleur...

  • Something weird about that Kickstarter that makes it feel a bit like a scam / outdated before its even launched?

  • dunno... i thought it looked fairly legit? seems pretty well developed if you look at the youtube vids of it. i mean it's pretty ugly looking, but aside from that it could be a good solution for adding gears easily. the inventor used to work for sram...

  • That's what electronic shifting should have been all along. Just set your limits, tell it how many sprockets, tell it how many chainrings and have it automatically correct the indexing so it doesn't go out over time. Break your derailleur? Just buy anything from the shop and correct the pull ratios. Want to upgrade to 12-speed? Just buy a new cassette and chain, correct the limits and type "12" instead of "11".

Wish it was less ugly though. Maybe integrate it into the derailleur (with the ability to swap cage lengths) like the SRAM/Shimano ones. And it's super noisy if you watch the video. Also not sure about using Bluetooth, but I don't have any better suggestions.

Edit: I suppose what I'm proposing is the computer equivalent of Linux, where you do everything yourself and spend half your time solving frustrating niche problems instead of just using the thing, as opposed to the current Shimano/SRAM equivalent equivalent of Mac, where you can only do what they want you to do and when it breaks you throw it in the bin and buy a new one.

  • someone else had mentioned how loud it is on one of the videos, apparently they had the thing mic'd up so it sounded really noisy but it's a lot quieter in reality.
there's another company pushing a similar product as well - http://www.archercomponents.com
better branding, bit more spendy though...

  • Time to show off my Pickenflick after the first ride ;)
Apex 1 mechanical version, immediately made several changes, now it is my first bike where from the beginning I feel it is almost perfect :)
Kudos to Planet X for letting me change to Selcof Sterrato flared bars and Vittoria Adventure Trail TNT tyres for free (both were not available in the bike build, but they just put them after I asked for it and offered to pay extra).
Already set up tubeless on the new wheelset and added a carbon 3T seatpost and my proven Toupe saddle. Also swapped BB5s for HyRD from my old bike.

  • Talking of PX, the Space Chicken actually looks OK for carbon gravola budget bike.

  • Nice build, rides even better with 650b x 47s in my opinion

  • I opted for 700c for now mostly because I got quite tight on budget and I got Vittorias free with bike, while 650b tyres are quite expensive and not so widely available, especially here in Poland. Later I plan to have two wheelsets - 650b for road and gravel, and 700c for more wet and muddy conditions, I was considering Nano 40c as my future mud tyre, but I have spare Crosswolf TCS laying around, so probably will use them instead.

  • Cheapish wheelset for anyone?

  • Looks tidy Ed, good work?

  • ...and to make money, these companies would do..what exactly? Your comparison of an open source os software to companies that make hardware is a bit moot don't you think?

@edscoble Gravel Kings FTW. Miss my Arkose. What bars are on yours, because the reach looks spot on.

  • First time I don't want to change anything on my bike (except saddle and seatpost, but I allready have the new ones)

  • Out front garmin mount? £5 on aliexpress, your neck will thank you

  • What bars are on yours, because the reach looks spot on.

The old Salsa Cowbell that have about 76mm of reach, 126mm drop, and 12° flare, that was before gravel bike become a thing, really comfortable, think mine is about 6 years old.

I'm gonna get the new Salsa Cowbell that have a 68mm reach and 115mm drop in 46cm as the shorter reach work better with the longer hood of the hydraulic levers.
I got used to the 44cm width that I can't seemed to go back to my old 42cm bar, bike felt easier to ride on wider drop bar.

  • ...and to make money, these companies would do..what exactly?

    Sell the shifters/derailleur (if it's integrated like SRAM + Shimano ones)/other electronics/software/etc.

  • What are the 'R' and 'T' designations?

  • I just stalked you on my commute in. This looks really nice,I'm a sucker for white and black.
    Things I liked:
    Your calm demeanour
    The mudguards
    Your trousers
    The saddle roll
What is the saddle roll please?
