  • I used cruds for two years, took them off one bike and put them on another. They worked well. I put race blade jobs on another bike. Rattled like fuck and I hated them.

The crud 3s look a bit better.
    YMMV.
    Etc and so on

    Horse. Course.

  • Cruds work very wel if you closely follow the instructions.

They are literally plastic though, so flex and bend and thumbscrews can drop off. I kept losing the ‘tail’ section and eventually lost patience.

For a tarck bike just put a front raceblade on the rear to keep your back dry and find a pressure washer on/near your commute if you don’t have something at home. Or drop 650b wheels in and p-clip on some proper mudguards.

  • OK, plan of action is to try the spring thing, as I think it is cool. I have the bolt, the nut, the spring and the washers.

But, I can't use a P Clip as the bolt has to slide through the hole, which would leave it unclamped to the chain bridge.

I could use one of the SKS clips that @Skülly linked to up there.

Or, I could drill the chain bridge. Is this actually a thing? Do people do it? Is it as straightforward as it sounds?

  • Dude. Chill.

The half link is not the right option, as I am currently on my small chain ring and need clearance for a larger one. The spring thing lets me do that by adjusting a single bolt to compress or decompress the spring.

I'll drop into BC when I have a chance and see if they have one of those clips.

  • You can berate me in person about it on Thursday or Sunday.

    1. Yes, you could
    2. Yes
    3. Yes, at least three times personally
    4. Yes. Some linseed oil (or other anti-rust stuff) in the bridge afterwards, before bolting the guard on.
  • Hmmmmmmm.

Where do you live? What do you like to drink?

  • Unless this is you?

  • Broken picture.

  • Fixed. Anyway, I'm on the wrong side of the North sea. Skülly sounds like he's keen though?

  • Lol, lol and lol.

  • Kinesis Tripster AT rear mudguard in black to fit over 32-45mm tyres. What should I look for?

I only really want the rear but presume I have to buy a pair? Anyone likely to want a front?

Also, same thing for Specialized Sequoia, black, to fit over 42mm tyres. Dunno style of either mounts because that involves walking 10m away...

  • Finally got my rear PDW to stop squeaking. Bent the claw type bits off the guard that attach to the seat stays, cut a bit of inner tube and put it between the two and bent them back again tightly with the pliers and hey presto, quietness resumed!

  • Do they not have a brake bridge mount?

  • As well as the self-adhesive plastic?

  • They do, with the double ended Y fork shaped thingie in the third pic

  • Ok, they looked devoid of mounting options. Are these any better than SKS or PDW?

  • Better than SKS, no contest. Never had PDW but I'd guess they're similar quality but wide enough to clear a 45 tyre

  • Yes, works a treat!

  • Best you'll manage to fit under that is a 28

  • Really? Well, that won't work. Ta

  • Just get Matt Bluemels and spend the spare cash on beers.

Velo Orange in my experience don't stand up to loads of use, they are a bit flimsy and easy to bend/damage out of shape if you are not precious with your bikes, I've killed a set on my Audax bike in the past, my wife managed to slowly trash some just commuting to work and back.
