  • I managed a 40.40 10k in victoria park today.

that is only 4 minutes slower than the same race last year.

    roll on next year!

  • Hurrah! This morning's final 20 miler before VMLM felt the most comfortable so far, which was extra satisfying a couple of days after a 10 mile race. (Total tally for 20+ = 4 x 20, 2 x 22.) 77 miles for the week, 963 year-to-date. Bring on the taper.

  • Nice, managed to eek out 20 Miles this morning mostly on Cornish coastal paths sore feet now but confident the amount of ascent I’ve done this week has built plenty of strength for Brighton in two weeks and my calf has held together, sports massage and rest now!

  • Nice! I'm hoping my quad holds up enough to get 20 in tomorrow which will give me around about 134 miles across six long runs which I'll be very happy with.

  • Did you get tutted by the popped collar red trouser golf brigade?

I'm down there next weekend - looking forward to having a trawl up to Pentire Point.

  • Not many people on course this morning, but then at £300 a round I’m not surprised!

I’ve never run beyond port quin before this week, amazed at how much easier the terrain is! Still hard going but a different league!

  • Something is wrong with my foot.

Fri HM + 12k no problem; Sat steady parkrun with son +6k whatever; Sun pre-eggcess 16k fine and dandy.

Mon pop across road to buy milk…roll ankle, painful to walk, slight bruising.

I’m going to try and drink it off.

  • Cheeky half over Ilkley Moor yesterday, went sub 2 - which felt reasonable, and wasn't pushing too hard.
I was feeling chuffed about how I felt much better than last weeks long run, until I realised it was about half the ascent 1600ft vs 3300. More hills needed.

  • Ah that's a bugger, heal up soon! Drink and chocolate eggs are bound to help.

  • Thanks. Ice wrap on foot is, erm, fun.

  • No more than 10 mins ice.
I learned that from operation ouch.

  • I have a forerunner 220 if it would be useful?

  • Oh that would be good - how much do you want for it?

  • I've got arthritis in the big toe joint on my left foot, or Hallux Rigiditis as Google seems to want to call it. Has anyone else here dealt with this by for e.g. seeing a specialist whom they could recommend?

  • Is this self diagnosed? Surely the first step is to go see a doctor rather than relying on doctor google..?

  • Surely the first step is to go see a doctor rather than relying on doctor google..?

Dr is just going to google it though?

  • But they have more powerful google skillz.

  • When I had an MRI on the foot in question (for Mortons Neuroma) the surgeon commented that there was arthritis present in the joint, I'm making the assumption that it has got worse.

The range of movement in my left big toe is roughly half the right.

  • I have full on psoriatic arthritis. I'm currently on methotrexate and anti tnf alpha injections.

I got a referral to the rheumatology clinic at gstt.

  • I was thinking more Supervet than anything else, looks like I'd be sorted in half an hour - and get a stylish cone to wear.

  • Not anymore, everyone can access webmd these days.

  • I don't think they can cut your toe off, flush it, and stitch it back on again.
Medical technology may have advanced though. You could ask.

  • not since they got rid of nhs direct

  • Made it back to Ladywell for a track session last night with big @PhilPub. So much easier doing a session in a group than on your own, plus Ladywell is pretty sheltered. Fingers crossed for Road Relays selection now!

  • Looking good last night! I felt like the fat dad at school sports day on a final 200 metre rep, watching everyone surge ahead, but that's OK. 3k pace seems to be about my limit at this stage in marathon training, and last night was effectively the last big session before the taper-proper; 19 miles for the day inc. 5 miles easy in the morning, then the final 3M @ 5:37 (~MP) on the track before the regular interval session (pyramid going up from 200 to 1k and back down). Final 20 miler and biggest MP session are also in the bank, so just a matter of cutting down now whilst keeping a lid on eating bad things, getting enough sleep, and avoiding ill people.
