  • I still have the old wheel, could get an extender and refit it. Problem there is that of leg clearance- I’d likely still want to get lower in the car to stop having to manspread.

  • Upside-down periscope glasses

  • I've ordered one of these, lets see if this, combined with the work on the seat cushion gets enough drop.

  • Ignoring the date, isn’t that going to feel really weird as the wheel tracks across as well as rotating?

  • I don't know. It's no un-common for taller drivers to do, and those (few) with whom I have discussed it think it's fine, one of those things you get used to I imagine.

Would I prefer not to go that route? Yes, absolutely.

  • Also, it was done as standard on 911's up to the late 80's, apparently (the wheel being offset upward on the column).

  • I don’t think think it’s that uncommon at all, I’ve seen a fair few standard cars where the wheel is offset on the column

  • I can’t find an actual measurement but I think it moves the wheel around 10mm, the Porsche XSU kit (new cushions) drops the driver 10mm, so hopefully we can find a bit more than that. Overall my eyeline needs to come down around 30mm.

  • Recaro Pole Positions with 964 Carrera RS tri-colour trim would look suitably OEM+ I'd wager? More factory looking than the tartan at any rate if that's the goal?

Would extending the rearward travel help?

  • Not without leg and arm extensions.

  • Just to ask the obvious question, have you mocked up a seating position with the og seats removed?

Otherwise how do you know if any adjustments will ever allow you to see the dials?

  • Know nothing about Porsches or aftermarket instrument dials... Is thre an instrument cluster around that moves the dials down an inch rather than replacing the seats?

  • Not got the car back yet.

  • What about an aftermarket HUD?

  • W196R

  • I'd be tempted to see if you can go and take the seat out in their workshop and then measure up seating positions to see what position would allow full visibility of instruments (assuming there is one).

Otherwise Ramsaye's aftermarket HUD suggestion is a good one.

  • That is simply incredible.

That's quite a good idea. The trying out a bucket, not the HUD - that's not happening.

    I've found this on eBay:

Which is in terrible condition, but that's not hugely important as I'd get it refinished.

Note the similarity to this 993 RS chair:

  • I can't remember, why did you change the steering wheel?

  • Wow. Such rad, much patina.

  • Why does it have a baby seat? 😉

  • In the prior comment you had put the url https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/recaro-profi-g-bucket-seat/152965354593?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649 in as an image tag.

    That would never have worked.

It is a link to a web page, not an image.

It is not even on Flickr, so I am not sure if that is what you are talking about... it is just the last broken image in the last comment you made.

  • Yeah, I had the wrong thing on the clipboard, which is why I deleted that post.
