1980 SMG aero piste

  • Through a friend i got a link about a trackframe which looked pretty interesting..
Thanks again for the link Rick ;)
An aero seattube and a nice looking steel track stem.
    .
Left last saturday to France and picked up the frameset.
When i just saw the bike it only got better with the downtube and the fork having aero tubes 👌
Seller told me this frame used to belong to the French national team rider and used at the olympic games 🔥
If this is true, is something that is worth finding out.

When i returned back home i had a closer look at the frameset and in the light i could see the remains of a transfer on the toptube.
Daniel Jacotey it said , and the search started...
    .
    .
    .
After speaking with another friend who is living in Paris,
he helped me get more into detail about this frame.
Thanks for the help Vinnie :)
    .
This frame was made by Daniel Jacotey in Picquigny near Amiens in France,
Daniel Jacotey retired in 2016 as a well known shop owner in Picquigny in Picardy, running the shop for 36 years, and the fact that these bikes are no longer being made just adds more kudos to owning one.
This looks to be a unique frame and apperntly was used by French track cyclist Philippe Ermenault.
Philippe Ermenault (born 29 April 1969) is a French former track cyclist.
Ermenault was twice world champion in individual pursuit and Olympic champion as part of the France team in the team pursuit.
He is the father of racing cyclist Corentin Ermenault.
    .
    .
I will try to get as much info as possible but since the shop from Daniel Jacotey closed last year that part will be hard.
Hopefully i can make contact with Philippe Ermenault :)

  • Nice score! My guess would be that the tubing is camus aero 7. They offered aero tubes with traditional round ends so that they could be used with normal lugs. I have a frame with camus ul89 tubing, I couldn't find out much about it tho.

  • Ooh whauw thats really cool
    thanks allot man
some more stuff to read :)

  • Commented on this on the 'gram - love it

  • This frame is an SMG (soudures et mesures garanties) built by Jean Frelat, as @Sig_Arlecchino said, it’s build from Camus Aero 7 tubing.

Daniel Jacotey’s shop was well known is the region, he was working with talented framebuilder as SMG, and also CACEG (who became later « Paris-Tours ») assembling custom build bikes for region’s racers & fortunate client..

  • @hacha thanks for your reply
So you say this is not build by Daniel ?
because you can still see the Jacotey transfer on the toptube and i assumed Daniel made this frame?

  • @Kobe Yes 100%, Daniel wasn’t a frame builder, Jean Frelat made it and Daniel build it. I am personally in touch with Daniel, I had to visit him in December, I could show him your frame and ask him if he remember to who it belong originally..

  • @hacha ooh cool
yes please man because seller told me this frame was used the olympics by Philippe Ermenault
if you can ask Daniel that would be great

    Thanks in advance
    have a great weekend
    cheers Kobe

  • @hacha and @Sig_Arlecchino thanks for your comments

And @hacha did you spoke with Daniel regarding from who this frame was ?
