    Is probably not taken....

  • So you paid the £8.60 cost of an NHS prescription, rather than the free market cost of the course of antibiotics?

  • If @polarbear didn't wait to use NHS and got a private prescription, that would mean paying free market cost I think?

  • he's made the entire story up tho, hasn't he / she?

  • Why would you say that? Perfectly possible that someone would only use private healthcare, if they either had a privileged upbringing or moved to this country.

  • These decisions need to be taken with a view of society as a whole

The issue is that the decisions are not very good. And once a tax or benefit is in place, it's almost impossible to remove. Eg. tax credits.

That tax is theft is risible

If someone took your bike and gave it to the homeless, is it theft?

  • nah i'm not buying it. he's / she's got an axe to grind and clearly lacks the intellectual fortitude to make a point without resorting to making shit up.

  • moved to this country

I am indeed a dirty immigrant.

  • If someone took your bike and gave it to the homeless, is it theft?

Either you don't understand what tax is, and deserve our pity and educational assistance, or you are a moron who thinks that anyone would be taken in by your astonishingly stupid comparison of a) tax and b) bike theft, which is a rhetorical saw so blunt it even has a fucking Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_equivalence

  • These decisions need to be taken with a view of society as a whole

The issue is that the decisions are not very good. And once a tax or benefit is in place, it's almost impossible to remove. Eg. tax credits.

What does this actually mean? i.e. what point are you making here? That we should never take a decision in case it (later) turns out to have been wrong? How, then, do you get dressed in the morning?

  • It's not a logical fallacy, it's just a question!

  • Clearly wasn't said in a derogatory sense - my point was that it would be more unusual to not have had experience of the NHS if you grew up here.

  • Don’t be ridiculous @polarbear The homeless can’t charge Di2.

  • What does this actually mean

That the government makes bad decisions when it comes to spending our money

  • It's not a logical fallacy, it's just a question!

    Option a then.

To be clear - tax is something that members of society pay to said society in order that it functions.

    Bike theft is bike theft.

These two things are not the same, therefore me being cross with someone who has stolen my bike is not the same as me paying tax - otherwise I could call the police every month and report the government.

  • That the government makes bad decisions when it comes to spending our money

So they should never take a decision again, in case it's wrong?

  • Don’t be ridiculous. The homeless can’t charge Di2.

    Please! It's eTap now.

  • I'm glad the ice cap is melting.

  • Bike theft is bike theft.

My tax money pays for eg. free bus fares for those over 60. A stolen bike would also provide free travel for someone else.

Both situations include forcibly taking what's mine and giving it to someone else.

  • shut up wasteman. ffs.

  • ^^No, it doesn't - and if you can't understand this then god help you if you can get to the cutlery.

Tell me, when you go into Starbucks does the barrista steal your money before giving you a coffee?

  • I'm glad nobody observed the (possible) needless use of antibiotics contributing to the ticking timebomb of antibiotic-resistant infections, otherwise this could have turned into a really protracted argument.

    Or something

  • Yeahbut you only got the money because a system existed in the first place and big chunk of that was enabled by taxation

Unless we are talking about someone chopping off your arm and giving it to someone else most things we have are kinda on long term loan

  • It can't be, no evidence of him being a sex pest, although that may yet be to come.
