If you call commercial establishments and they agree to help then it's legit.

You can't call private individuals and get help.

But I think the point is if you know the bike shop they’re more likely to say ‘Ah hey Joe, of course we’ll stay open another 30 minutes so we can mend your bike.’

You’re missing the fact that there is a rule prohibiting advice from friends.

Basically. If it’s not a publically accessible service (that any racer could access) it’s considered assistance and banned.

It’s a grey area. And an honest racer would call them shop and just say please treat me like any other person who might call.

If you think they’re offering you special service, then you need to make the call to turn it down.

That's harder to police. It's up to the rider to make the honourable call on that.

It's like people who live on a race route - they have some inherent advantage over those that don't but the rules TRY to equalise these disparities as much as possible. They can't cater for everything.

Ultimately it's all self policed and as much about ethos as it is the rules.
I also understand that you often can't legislate for every circumstance that could give an individual an advantage. However when drafting such rules you can focus on equity of outcomes rather than process.

TABR and TCR have overlords that have adjusted results in the past. IPWR isn't officially running so there's no organiser to dish out anything.

Yeah, funny how I've often heard at a cp that I look like I wasn't even in the race, just a random guy hanging out there chatting. And I'm like yeah no problem, just riding my bike. Thinking you should have seen me 5 mins ago, crawling up a climb, barely staying on the bike, nose bleeding, whole body destroyed. Tho I do enjoy being there by myself, but you somehow get more organised when you're among people who know who you are.

I've been thinking I might ride PBP fixed, if I'll go there again in 2019. This all is very inspiring.

If Pawel uses those cogs, at least I know I’ll be first unsupported IPWR fixie lol!
