  • I’ve only seen bad quality photos and I’m not au-fait with said tropes but by all accounts the actual people depicted are of multiple faiths. I’m genuinely wondering if there’s more to it than that or a dog-whistle thing or just a bit dodgy and made the most of.

  • I think a good analogy here is blacking up like Minstrels. In a European context its a bit dodgy/bad taste, whereas in the US there are much more hurtful connotations.

    It's important to see this in light of people's Grandparents' families being wiped out following a time when depictions of Jews like this were in the papers, and there was a quite widely held view that they had caused and profited from the wall st crash.

  • Yes that does ring a bell from school WW2 lessons. I thought the mural was bankers of history (some Jewish, some not) but it looks like you’ve covered that below.
