  • @spotter They come on a cargo bike that we sell, pretty decent side visibility and roughly the same brightness and beam as my Supernova e3. Build quality is solid too!

  • Yes, I ride this light on one of my fixed audax bike.
The light has seen a load of rain, perfect so far. And the standing light is functional.
It does have a decent amount of power, about the same as my supernova but not exactly the same pattern (beam a bit more like b&m iq). Its enough for road use.

Its not the same quality build as supernova though, very plastiky, yet durable enough. The mount is a bit tricky to get in the good position but you only do it once.
I only chose supernova e3 on my new bike because the rear light is ace' and there is nothing equivalent.

  • great thanks chaps!

  • I have the 30 lumen one which was a lot brighter than I expected. This one should be even better.

Exposure Revo for sub £140 - nearly pulled the trigger myself but it's probably OTT for road which is primarily what I plan to use it for.

  • don't see why, I use mine on road, easily removable and run a redeye rear light from it

  • Worth a punt then do you think? Obvious alternatives are Supernova E3 Pro 2 which seems to get good reviews for road riding, or Schmidt Edelux II or B&M IQ-X. All between £100-£140, anyone got anything to weigh in for/against any of them?

The only thing I can see that's an obvious advantage of the revo over the others is it's off-road credentials, which could come in useful in the future possibly.

  • I was tempted to buy it for a spare! I have B&m (not sure which one) on the front of my Big Dummy and don't notice a massive difference. I like the ability to remove easily unlike the others, you get another 10% off with British Cycling (if you are a member)

  • That's true, That really makes it worth while as it basically brings it to the price of the others... unfortunately I'm not a member :-/ is it a code or do you link your accounts somehow? I'm guessing I'd have to get someone who's a member to order it?

  • Should have just googled it first; https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/chainreaction

It is a code it seems, one per month. Anyone want to take pity on me?

  • You can have mine, I won't be spending £100 on bike bits this month. Will PM.

  • Spent too long trying to decide like a plonker didn't I and someone else bought the last one they had in stock, doh! :( Saved myself some money this month I suppose...

(Oh and massive thanks to frankenbike - gave me his code - but it didn't work, said it didn't apply to me so I guess maybe they go wise to it)

  • I’ve been sawing and drilling

  • Have you tried to adapt it on the seatstay bridge near mudguard ?

  • Nope. Not yet. This is mk1 so I’ll see how it gets on. I need to fit the front light still.

  • This looks great! Jealz

  • Finally got round to building the Ali-Express hub/light, just in time for the clocks to change this weekend. After a while of head-scratching why the light wasn't working, only a tiny flicker at low rpm, finally twigged the light provided is DC (it works when connected to a battery) and hub is AC (works with an other AC dynamo headlight I have). ....if purchasing factor into cost, either a converter, or an AC headlight!

Quality is ok, although after a while of bedding in, the hub became loose, and needs tightening ...by hand. There's no lock-nuts, and as far as I can tell, relies on being set up correctly, then held there by skewer.

  • Received the supernova connectors today. Much much much smaller than I expected. The Internet shots make them look like they're about 5cm long. Always did wonder how I'd get them into the frame, now I know it's a perspective ting!

  • I have a Supernova E3 pure front light, and a supernova rear light that have worked for years as a pair. Recabled onto a new bike and the rear light stopped working after a day or two, front still works. Have stripped and reconnected wiring twice with no success. Is there any other reason it's not working or do I just need to have another go at it?

From memory the front light wouldn't work on its own before, but works fine currently, which makes me wonder if the rear light has blown but is still drawing current which keeps front light happy. I might be making that up though.

    Thoughts appreciated.

  • Sure there's no crossed wires or shorted wires? Checked for little bits of wire crossed up? Tried it hanging loose?

  • 99.9% certain it's wired up correctly, but obviously doubting myself because it's not working. I've had to lengthen the cable overall so have added another section which adds another point for faults to creep in too.

Will check and check again. Sigh.

  • Test it without any of the joins. Can you run another length of cable loosely from the first exit point of the front light? So you can quickly test it both ways around. If it lights up at all then one of your joins is arse about or shorting out.

  • Found it. Was in the join closest to front light that had never been changed even when swapping bikes, I trusted the heat shrink but must have got pulled when fitting it to new bike. I had assumed the fault was in the new connections.

Ah well, 3rd time lucky. Cheers

  • Sometimes you really can pull too hard...

    My work here is done.

  • Everyone I know with kids has this giraffe.
