  • On the birthday wish list

  • This is spot on - combo of frame and deep rims is perfect.

  • Tape job on point.

  • He is right though, once you go dynamo its hard to go back

  • Currently building up a slightly battered kona dew I picked up cheap on ebay for my partner to use as her daily. The moser in the background is her other bike which she loves to ride but often feels a bit precarious on wet, lumpy roads. Some of the parts included have been carried over into the new build, others were very battered up and went straight in the bin - the rest came from what we had lying about.

The main objective was to jazz up the battleship greyness of the frame itself to make it seem appealing to ride even on the rainyest of days as well as feeling like a super solid commuter. The frame is covered in scratches, some of which polished out with some car valet scratch repair stuff. If it gets a lot of use as it is the plan is to get a new funky fresh paint job.

Some grainy progress photos below. Cable outers are cut to length, still got inners and proper setting up to do.

I'm thinking it would be nice to finish it off with one of these or similar ....although I've already had grumbles about the weight of it compared to the moser.

    Proper photos to follow soon.

  • Full 7400 but 22,0 SHIM600 stem and DAAX drops

  • Wow, this turned out nice..

  • Wanted a bike i could take for some weekend touring with my 8 year old
daughter. Found the frame locally and bought it, mainly as i liked the color..build with deore DX, which shifts surprisingly smooth. Brakes are a different story, but will spend some time adjusting them tonight.. need some proper racks..

  • DA AX bars? Thought they had weird bar ends

  • probably cuted...

  • Please make your pics great again ! So dull !

  • merci !

  • This. How do you do that thin stripe? @HoKe

  • New to me kuwahara Ishiwata 022 56cm beaut that came fixed with all orginal 'jdm' shimano 105 parts.

I am currently slinging on modern 105 but neglected to source a downtube clamp cable stop.

My plan is to eventually source or build up some new wheels and slowly upgrade the bearings etc. Once completed I'll got for a respray.

Rather than purchasing a generic problem solver cable stop, does anyone have a period correct lug look clamp I can buy or no where I can? All the ones I find are £25 purchase and £45 shipping from trump land...

What else would you do it?

  • Dear sages: As my SS MTB was stolen recently (if you're in Glasgow/Scotland/elsewhere, pls look out for a red Vitus, with everything upgraded to slightly better from parts bin) I am looking to make more everyday use of my CX. As a fast runaround, and as a slow runaround (3 kids). This means flat bar and going 1x, (110 bcd/42t) possibly SS. It's a Genesis Fugio 853, with a rival 22 road set on, and Juin cable/hyd. Any reason these things would not work? Recommendations for other bits and or sites? Thanks!

  • Can't say how envy I am, I love these late 80's - early 90's hybrids, but they are so rare in my country... Looks lovely already.

  • kuwahara Ishiwata 022 56cm

You wait ages and then two come along at once :)

Do you have the SL-105[0|1|5] or whatever band-clamp downtube levers? If so, you can take the lever parts off and you're left with the bosses needed to attach conversion cable stops as you would on something with brazed-on downtube lever bosses. I've got a set of SL-1055 band clamp levers apart on the desktop, and it looks like the Tiagra stops should be the best match. And if you don't have the original gear levers, did I mention that I've got a set of SL-1055... :)

  • @mdcc_tester what do you mean by 2 come a long at once? Had a scroll back and couldn't see a nother.
To be honest I know naff all about it other than they made the BMX in E.T. seems to be a fairly nice budget frame though.

I've been doing some exploring and the jury is out if the bosses will fit on a downtube shifter clamp stork. I didn't see a reason why not but people have been setting me straight left right and centre. But they should, shouldn't they?

How much would you be asking? & Thanks

My Hirame is Ishiwata 022 made by Kuwahara, it's very similar. I think they branded them as Kuwaharas in territories where that name was an attraction.

As far as I can see , it should work. On balance, if it was my bike I think I'd go with Jtek , but you can have the SL-1055 levers for £10 if you want to try them.

  • @mdcc_tester that's a naaaaace bike you got there! Mines originally a custom build for Richmond cycles but they do look similar if not identical. Were those custom decals?

Think I'm going to buy on that link, cheap as chips and will work. Didn't manage to find them so cheap myself so cheers for that.

I like the ishi because it's not 'rare' it's just not common either. A bit different

  • The electrical tape? You can buy thinner tape but I used to just lay it out on the (clean and degreased) metal workbench. Cut it in half with a razor blade and a metal ruler. One half for each side. You can do it with scissors too but not as neat.

  • Cheers - on mobile I thought the pic showed the tape also somehow covering the cut edge of the tape as well, but on desktop it seems not. Ignore me!

  • Put guards and a rack on the Dolan for prommuting, getting groceries and fixed camp outs/sleeping in bushes.

Also, fixed with a rear brake hilariously easy to skid with.
