Thanks for that. Logical and helpful. I'm probably suggesting overkill. I can't imagine a situation where we'd be working 10 hour days without access to mains without bringing a generator. I'll have a think and tone it down though there is some room for something heavy if it can be put in a wheeled cart etc.
5 laptops (say 65W, which is at the low end) for 10 hours = 5*65*10 = 3250Wh.
That's going to be heavy. A typical 50Ah car battery = 50A*12V = 600Wh. Imagine lugging at least 5 of them around.

A 3KVA UPS is going to start at £500. Just checking a 3KVA rackmount one by APC and it's 44.5kg.
