I'd call bollocks
Shimano compatibility charts are always ultra conservative. If the fluid type and displaced volume are the same, the fact that the anodising colour doesn't match might make Shimano squeamish but it won't hurt anybody else

Any reason why you are using MTB caliper with drop bars levers?

I'm using an XTR caliper with an R785 lever, so I'd call bollocks on that.
