I should point out the tools I used to make mine:
A Dremel to take off the walking blocks on the sole.
Other than that, a Swiss army knife to: undo the screws and bolts holding the soles in to the Sidis; prize the soles off; cut the adhesive bits holding the soles on; cut the holes in the bottom of the converse.
Now I wish I'd sawn the blocks off with the Swiss army knife for completeness. I love my Swiss army knife.

I suspect that Scott (@Black_Rainbow_Project) does things more properly!

Probably because they're the dorkiest looking trainers ever made. Do you wear a snapback, G-star jeans too big held up by a too long belt and drink copious amounts of relentless energy drink?

I assume people converting shoes have seen the MA3k thread, it's pretty comprehensive...

Jon's trainer conversion thread up there definitely suggests that glue is a good idea. Will do that this evening. I think I have a bunch of rubber cement lying around that should work.

Just rode to the chippy. No need for glue on these bad boys.

Update on home made SPD shoes. They were too small. The addition of the SPD turned an already tight pair of trainers into a blister maker. I remember now why I hardly ever wore them.
Popped into JD Sports and get a set of Converse All Star low tops on sale for cheaps. Sized up accordingly.
These have now been cut, my finger has had a bandage applied, and silicon sealant has been liberally doused round the edges.

Does anyone want a pre-cut pair of converse all stars in orange, to suit size 8 foot? Free to any taker.

Ah, was expecting those Canyon CX bars.

@gideonparanoid this isn't them?

Would actually have these off you if 1. I lived in London and 2. If I had some for-the-bin spd shoes lying around. I reckon they’d just sit in a cupboard, annoying my wife as it is :-/

Where do you live?
How high is your highest cupboard shelf?
How tall is your wife?

Bristol. I actually have a studio/shed office that I can pile up with random junk, but I’m pretty sure I would never get round to DIYing these, sadly :-/

for-the-bin spd shoes
I have a pair of dzr dice's in 44 that I'm going to throw out if you or anyone else wants them. I'm in dublin so ideally I'd like a few euro towards postage but free otherwise. Still technically cycleable, but close to their end I reckon, no shoe repair places I asked would fix the inside of the heel or some of the stitching on the flap.
I could post up a few photos if anyones interested

My bodged cambium is really nice to ride!
A bit of a squeak when honking, but I can live with that!

Excellent work. This thread is one of my faves.
When you do it, it's not hacking but proper manufacture. :)
