I was tempted by one but the geometry (as mentioned) fucked me right off

yea wtf were they thinking...

Ritchey suggests no more than 30mm of headset spacers with its carbon forks.
Clearly it's a robust anti-mamil tactic

Amazing price for these frames if anyone wanted to build a fatbike...

Crazy price. I don't understand fat bike specs, couldn't this be made into a gravelly thing?

Somebody one here did a cool current projects thread

Loving this one!
I've also finally decided I can justify buying a Break-Away as I'm essentially away 75% of the time with work these days and it would be great to be able to fill the evenings with cycling and exploring places rather than sitting pulling rings on cans of Guinness all evening!
So for predominantly road riding with a chance of gravel would I be better off with a Road or Cross Break-Away?
Whatever the build there will be a pair built as my colleague who I travel with most is also a keen cyclist so there will definitely have to be a custom paintjob done in the interest of differentiation :)

ALL Ritchey bikes have weird geos .. long and low is the overarching theme with LOADS of inconsistency between stack and reach in diff sizes. They need to get this shit together.
-
• #391
anyway, if you are not in USA the cost diff between a Break Away made by ritchey and a Break Away made by @coldharbour wouldn't be huge ..
-
• #392
Hmm... I am not in the US of A... I might have to look into that option!

If you want sensible geometry and custom paint its almost good value to ask Matt to build you one. Ritchey sells the break-away mechanism (along with the case?) directly to framebuilders.
Its on my list to get made as DBAD 2.0

DBAD 2.0
OH SHIT! Causally dropped this boi in the convo! What will we be going for this time sir? Rod brakes?
-
• #395
It's definitely worth an email with a few questions, probably won't happen until Christmas time but certainly a good idea!
I have to admit I do really fancy the Ritchey though, I think I'm a bit caught up on the pedigree and the prettiness of them...

The Ritchey Breakaway system is amazing - light and simple - no special tools to loose.
Long and low - its not for everyone - but Ritchey arnt building bieks for everyone. Trek / specialized have sort of nailed that.
