  • Flat mount is the future, I'm surprised that M8000 doesn't cater for it yet, but that definitely is something you should probably spec.

I know the first gen of Ultegra used MTB calipers, but I'm not sure if they've changed things with the new set, but you should be okay with some RS685 calipers, but best to check that with more knowledgeable people

  • Here we go. I'll probably keep these to be fair, plus I have a few scouting ones (also not selling) if you're interested?

  • Flat mount frame / fork can be adapted to take a PM caliper

Dunno about mix and matching - expensive hassle.

Why not start a current projects thread

  • Snoopy ones are the shit. I want a couple funny ones to fill the spaces. Might get a skateboarding mr potato head, and a bart simpson, snoopy. Mickey and the martini look pretty old too?

  • Cool - yeah the Snoopies and the Mickey were hand-me-downs off my mum. Might be from the 60s or 70s! The martini one I've no idea where it came from or how old it is. I do like the German ones - especially football. Your alien one is cool - where's it from?

  • I'm running Mini V's on my commuter Crux.

    Rear brake is awful.

Are compression-less outers worth it to try and get the brake to work?

  • which mini-v, which levers and which pads?

I ask because if you're using SRAM levers get the TRP CX8.4 not the CX9 as they have different lever throws which could be effecting it. However generally, compressionless will help regardless.

  • Not SRAM

It's only a budget commuter build so its a Tektro 926AL and a Shimano 4500 levers.

Front brake is a Sora V Brake which is fine.

  • compressionless and koolstop then

  • its a Tektro 926AL...Front brake is a Sora

Get a Sora or Tiagra for the rear, they're nicer than Tektro 926

  • You gotta get a Dortmund or Bielefeld one then, that's where I was on Erasmus. Straaaaaange place, Bielefeld.

I think there are a lot of (possibly repro) Snoopy ones about, didn't think about searching for the Mickey Mouse.

The San Franpsycho one was from the guys themselves when I met them at some weird fare once. Can't remember where it was, but they had awesome clothes. The X-Files/meme one was off of the auction site from HK. Bought like 3 or 4 to slap on everything. Not sure if there was another alien one on there (yet).

  • @branwen, @Howard

Just spoke to Shimano this morning, road calipers are not compatible with their MTB stuff at the moment, but I have asked them would their adaptors at least be compatible, I can't see why not, but best to check. I have also asked if they have any plan to make flat mount a standard for their MTB stuff, don't expect an answer on this though.

I will start a current project thread once I have some photos!! Soon!!!

  • I'm using an XTR caliper with an R785 lever, so I'd call bollocks on that.

  • I'd call bollocks

Shimano compatibility charts are always ultra conservative. If the fluid type and displaced volume are the same, the fact that the anodising colour doesn't match might make Shimano squeamish but it won't hurt anybody else

  • Yeah. Or possibly just not extensively tested together for Shimano to give their blessing.

  • 5 laptops (say 65W, which is at the low end) for 10 hours = 5*65*10 = 3250Wh.

That's going to be heavy. A typical 50Ah car battery = 50A*12V = 600Wh. Imagine lugging at least 5 of them around.

    Google: 3kva ups

A 3KVA UPS is going to start at £500. Just checking a 3KVA rackmount one by APC and it's 44.5kg.

  • Thanks for that. Logical and helpful. I'm probably suggesting overkill. I can't imagine a situation where we'd be working 10 hour days without access to mains without bringing a generator. I'll have a think and tone it down though there is some room for something heavy if it can be put in a wheeled cart etc.

  • Any reason why you are using MTB caliper with drop bars levers?

  • I was in Erasmus in Leipzig but I'm not getting a red bull one! They didn't exist when I was there. Lok Leipzig seem to be neo-Nazis... My German team is Erzgebirge Aue. Would love an old school Wismut Aue patch. Or Hansa Rostock (but also a bit right wing)

  • Yea you can't even wear Sports Direct stuff, because people like to cover over the L,O,L,E with their jacket.

  • Yup I remember this joke. The friends I made called it Liebefeld anyway.

The hoody man sold me these today which are pretty gnarly. What the gnome man is who knows....
