dose into a ... plastic pot
I do this when weighing dose else direct to pf when dose is set up ok. Might go full time if it saves stirring hassle!

I have a pair of those somewhere from the pop up on Clerkenwell Road donkeys years ago. Should get them out some time.

[Vietnamese egg coffee]
I did a try. I like the sweet/bitter thing you get with strong sweet coffee. I like creamy coffee. I like tiramisu. For me this was a real treat! Recommend.

Mine go on the blueberry bush to keep the soil acidic.

No, not a massive issue for the first cup of the day which is largely just pharmaceutical. You lose a little bit of detail but the convenience compromise is the winner.

They make the coffee taste a bit pricier...

If that is the case, and since all the hot plates I posted are designed to maintain a steady temp, what is your recommended heat level?
I currently set my range to just over halfway, but that is using a 1250 watt coil. -

I should give that a try
I don't know why I waited so long

They get hot pretty quickly, but just like a domestic hotplate, you can't alter the output instantly, and you're relying on good contact for conduction. For my moka money, it's about having that even, focused heat to produce the steam as quickly as possible and then being able to turn it down at the right moment and maintain the process. If you're going to buy something specific, I'd suggest getting a good camping burner, unless you can't have an open flame for some reason.

Can't have an open flame for some reasons... wife with asthma, CO.
Not concerned about turning down the heat at the correct time and rate. I'm basically looking for a heat source that is more consistent than my coil-top range and uses less power to do the job. -

Induction hob and stainless steel moka pot?

Bialetti make a plug in moka pot with its own heating element. How about that one?

I’ve recently picked up a couple of ‘Top Moka’ aluminum pots and have been quite taken with them, also the reason for my interest in the lab hot plates is their smaller size and power usage. I have 2 sizes of the Bialetti ‘Kona’ pots and they’re nice.

Had one of those, didn’t really get on with it, partly the taste and partly the ‘space taken up by a uniquely singular use item’ aspect.

After the first cup do you move on to a home espresso machine ? Or stick with the technivorm?
Hows the technivorm different to a v60 coffee? apart from being automated?

What was the portable (?) steamer posted a while back - someone said they were easy to pick up on eBay. There's a prettier looking freestanding Dualit one I saw - any first hand experience?
And in other news - what's a solid espresso machine in the 500-1000 range? I've been quite happy with a stove top but wonder if I was going to get a steamer (especially a fancier one) I'd be better served getting an all in one?
