Basically I think you have three choices.
Come out guns blazing and start kicking the shit out them,
What human nature tells you to do, but you know you shouldn't. End result is never a good one for any parties.

Technically the correct solution. Justice system is there for a reason right. Problem is we all know its a waste of time and likely to achieve nothing.
or just ride off (and try to forget about it).
The hardest of them all to do, but definitely the wise persons choice.

That sounds awful. And totally unnecessary.
You are right, it is a gamble if you start something. And often the people that are willing to do really dick things are generally pretty horrible people and likely to kick off. I've had so many close passes where I've shouted or even just raised my arm and the person has slammed the brakes on and jumped out to confront me.
Even when I've had words with people who are genuinely oblivious it was almost more pointless because they were just clueless and probably just think I'm mad.
