V2 of my commuter bike was my Wolverine. Originally picked up when I had no space for a dedicated commuter/beater the idea had been for it to be used as a tour, CX and commuter. As happens often though it ended up in just one mode being used exclusively as a tourer.
So that seemed a waste as it's not the cheapest frameset out there and I didnt want to use it as a beater/lock up bike hence we come to V3 (and circling back into the on-one/px fold following V1).
So it's cheaper, seems to ride nice enough. Kid is getting bigger and I fancied playing with hydro brakes so that's my first time setting them up. 1X to keep it simpler and cheaper still.
Feels stiffer with 20kg of child on the back too than the Wolverine and dropped top tube is nicer getting on and off (old and stiff I am).

Adjusted the brakes and gears and took the Marin out for a little spin. It‘s my first bike with fat slicks and I instantly fell in love with the way it rides. It’s pretty quick and hopping off curbs is a joy :)

Final bits to the workhorse, finally decided to replace the chain, hoods, handlebars and some fresh tape to give some new life to the old gal after a very rough couple of months of neglect:

Why the signature?

Well Thomson makes only two carbon drop bars and the road one has the funny aero profile that makes all my handlebar mounts render useless, so hence why this choose this cross version to match the cross bike (ish) granted there is the signature on it, but I don’t really mind tbh.

Fair enough. You rate the x1 chain? need a new chain - never x1'd before.

Tbh I’m not too sure, this is the first time I’m going to give them a try too, getting them purely my standard sram chain is completely dead and I’m not too sure if there weak link but occasion there is a skip in the chain that makes this horrible clang noise. Plus I like a bit of bling on the bike again (even if it is on my daily workhorse)

Thomson makes only two carbon drop bars
Other manufacturers are available :)

I know but my OCD side of me wouldn’t like it, plus now I have the complete set of three (stem, seat post and handlebars) #matchymatchy

Cheers, maybe I‘ll give it a try some time but I don‘t want to give up the matching stem and bars yet :)

Well played! (Although the NBD can’t fit this)
I may be selling the Ascot in the background at some point. Bought it as a winter bike but it has no clearance for guards. Beautiful uniqe frame, Columbus Multishape. Fair loss of paint in usual areas, it's 30 yr old.
Interested?
