• I'm not giving assistance, I'm posting on an internet forum while sat on my arse in London.

No question of his was answered, no navigation help was offered, I merely voiced an opinion -of mine- online.

Also, it's not a race. There are no rules, there is no organiser. Right?

Can you imagine if I started posting "assistance" online to every rider in front of me - would they all be DQ'd allowing me to win? I don't think so.

  • You know what I mean.

Navigation or not, telling someone what cream might be good, could be considered assistance in some peoples eyes.

  • Where do you draw the line?
    Interesting debate.

Kristof is probably the most supported unsupported ultra racer out there in terms of sponsorship no? And he’s won every race he’s ever entered.

  • Posting comments about where a rider is or what they might be doing could be considered assistance to other riders in some people's eyes. Basically unless all discussion about the ride is stopped then it's an irrelevance. It's riders asking for help online, summoning trail angels, that is the purpose of the rule. ie. if a rider asked where he can find food and I told him there was a cafe 100k ahead that would be rendering outside assistance. Offering unsolicited advice on any aspect of the race, specific to a rider or not, is not outside assistance.

I've probably mentioned Voltaren already so it could be argued that it was freely available information to any rider anyway if you wanted to get fussy about it. If I'd PMd him with details or how to cook up your own batch of Volteran that would be different... and very tricky to prove happened unless he shared that PM. (there was no PM).
