  • Assuming Complete not Compete? I wouldn't look at mileage too much, just get a solid 'time on feet' run each week building towards the time you expect to take, then shorter sessions as normal around this. Get lots of hills into these sessions too, low intensity but get used to going up & down. Same for off road element.

    That said 30 miles a week is enough for a 'completer' plan for a Mara, so could be a useful measure for these races too.

    Heptonstall will be a good marker for you, edit: 12 weeks is a good block of prep left too.

  • Absolutely complete not compete. Last year I looked to come in the front half of the races I entered - top 1/3 or 1/4 was a good day out.

    That's a good point about about 30 mile week for a mara completer, so hopefully if I can do the same on the fell, with comparable ascent, I should be alright. I'm trying to avoid too many road miles anyway as it, I find them pretty hard on my body!

    I guess I'll have to see how Heptonstall goes and plan accordingly! Thanks for the advice, I feel like I'm heading into the unknown a bit here.
