  • Just stuck car in das boot, and am heading up for The Dean shortly. Saddle bag seems very heavy, with all the extra layers i'm taking!
ECE home is still looking a probability (no idea how I'll get back if I don't as wife and children are coming back early Saturday afternoon - perhaps take my big lock and just party like a trojan in oxford till the weather clears?

Gently Bentley has been cancelled due to Amber weather warnings.

  • Not sure I will be though.....:(

  • Bit disappointed about GB being axed.

Will wait and see what the weather is like and might do an out and back to Windsor - rarely a problem on those roads.

  • Me too. I was debating the same ride, but have sacked it off. Two very long turbo sessions await instead :-(

  • Occasionally Hilly also cancelled, gutted.

  • Hmmm. Not an audax, but I was going to do London to Brighton return this morning and the snow is making me wonder if that's wise. Bit gutting, I only have precious few weekends before a baby arrives and makes the long trips unfeasible...

  • Have just come back from the south coast and there's lots of snow around the M25 at the moment.

  • Same. It’s been postponed to 8th April. Disappointed as I was looking forward to it, but given the conditions it’s the right decision. Will be a lot more fun and safer in a 3 weeks. Hopefully.

  • I'm pretty glad really. Slightly annoyed it's buggered up my March RRtY ride, so I'll have to do that on Good Friday now. Thank fuck it's in March this year otherwise that'd be my attempt over.

  • Rode the Pork Pie, the horror....

  • Rode The Dean, the horror.

Well rode most of the dean, packed at membury at about 2200.

Ride was beautiful and not overly physical, but the conditions from Chepstow onwards were a little bit difficult. 100km in 9hrs......

  • Even worse, it's only 50km from Chepstow to Membury!

  • No? Chepstow to Malmesbury is 50km.

I don't know, its all one snowy blizzardy blur still!

  • Are you sure of that? Membury is between Swindon and Hungerford.

  • Mental bridge: the Summer Cafe in Malmesbury, Motorway Servives in Membury.

  • Anyone doing Steam Ride on Saturday?
Am nervously coming out of audax retirement/hibernation and doing first ride of over 100k since Sept last year. I do vaguely remember (after painful last minute DIY London-Wales-London to get an SR for last year) swearing that I wouldn't do any audaxes again until I'd got faster, which doesn't seem to have happened. But weather forecast at least looks ok.

  • I did have down the 300k/200k combo down in Poole but was going to skip that to focus on speedwork so perhaps a Steamride could happen. I might just DIY one of my shorter AAA routes though - cheaper, shorter/faster and I can go when I want.

  • What is all this talk of getting faster and speedwork on the Audax thread

  • In my case it's purely because I've got so slow (I'm rarely averaging over 20kph moving) that I'm not getting to sit around and enjoy cake like I used to.

  • I'm pretty sure you're aware I race and I ride audaxes.

Choosing not to do 500k in a weekend is likely to help my 25mi times in upcoming time trials.

    A 200k though isn't unreasonable.

  • Mine and @hippy's reasons for getting faster are about as different as it's possible to get...

  • Both valid, and i was asked on the entry form what my favourite cake was

  • Im hoping to do it. Work has been crazy the last couple of weeks but it might just clear a bit which would be good. Not done a 200 or longer in over a year so would be good to stretch my legs a bit!
Of you've not done it this is a pretty gentle 200 where I wouldn't expect many people would have trouble with time limits

  • Just pulled my finger and entered, look for a green Stayer with a clicky-clicky-clicky bottom bracket. I will take it easy because knee :/
