I left my work socks on and put my cycling socks over them. Warmer toes for the ride home last night.

And big boy stem! :)

Just hacked this toboggan together last night between 10:30 and 1:30 - steambent oak held together with random screws... just placed a weight on the kettle with the hoover extension injecting the steam onto the wood soaking in a heat resistant plastic sleeve. The springback was pretty bad, but given the lack of form or clamps, I was pleased with the result.

After liberally coating myself in Storm Emma related mud/grit/slush yesterday, a full set of bodge guards was developed and implemented. Threads stayed mint today.

Pics later, but I was one of the original 100 people lucky enough to be chosen as a tester for the 'new' brooks cambium a few years back. I wore the original top out and stretched it, so they sent me a replacement, which is still going. I had the original hanging on the wall, and an old ritchey saddle that I had stripped, but wasn't comfy on.
Obvious choice was to utilise the ritchey frame, with part of the saddle left on it, and attach the cambium top!It still requires fettling, but works in principle!

How did you get the middle out? Was that a soldering iron through the placcy? Impressive work.

Leather Silk (I know sounds like a fetish club) polish (little blue beehive shaped cap on the spray can) is excellent on tired leather saddles. £2. No silicones either.

A dremel was my friend! Cutting disc was a bit melty though!

Oh, and the nose rivet is a cut down coach bolt, as I only had four spare brooks ones!!
-
• #415
How does the nose rivet even attach it to the frame? Is it clamping onto that washer?
-
• #416
Basically, the original top has a kind of threaded post that attaches to the original cantle frame. The ritchey thing didn't have the corresponding hole, so I shortened the front of the plastic and made a hole, but I also needed the saddle rails in the correct place, so the front rivet wasn't needed. Therefore, it is a coach bolt with a washer to secure it, and clamp it down into the rubber top

Provided that's a JIS screw, I don't see the problem.

I'd never call you smug...
Tiny hack here. Bought a bike with some zipp 101 wheels. rear bearings were loose. Obviously someone had tried to remove the aeronut with molegrips as the allen screw socket head was stripped. Nothing to lose here so found TORX bits have more bite in a knackered socket. Yep it worked.
