wanted: steel touring bike, small

Posted on
  • Friend is looking for a bike for long rides, something steel, something small (~49cm) -- something in the vein of a kona honky tonk or dawes galaxy? Fancy but not too fancy....whatcha got?

  • I’ve got a track bike - medium large.
    Light / stiff steel.

Not really suitable for touring or your friends size. Just thought I’d mention it.

  • Set on steel?
I have a very lightly used Spesh Sirrus Pro flat bar in a small (48cm c-t). Carbon forks, carbon rear stays and alu triangle/chain stays. At circa 9kg it's pretty lightweight and far easier to get about than old school steel tourers and plenty fine for long distances. Will take around a 40mm tyre WITH mudguards (28mm fitted) and comes with rack mounts.
3x10 FSA triple with Ultegra shifters and 105 derailleurs plus the top level Avid 7 brakes.

If flat bar isn't amenable these are ridiculously easy to convert to drops.
£300 or £325 with a new alloy rack and new SKS mudguards.

  • I have an old FW Evans tourer with a old deore groupset, 8 speed, triple at the front.
Has front and rear rack and mudguard mounts.
Top tube is around 54, but seat tube must be 50 or so - my 5'2"girlfriend was able to ride it with drops tilted back, with swept back bars (which I also have) it would fit perfectly.
Give me a pm if you're interested.
Would be looking for around £250

  • I have a ridgeback frame 50 or maybe 51 cm - very nice bike it was - let me know if interested and I can take some pics - would be looking for about £90
