If I could manage 13 miles at anything inside target MP during training, in less than ideal conditions, I'd say that in itself would be an encouraging predictor that target is on. As for running when not 100% well, if it is just sniffles I'd head out and see how it feels but cut yourself some slack if it's hard work to run at pace. On the other hand, any gunk below the throat is a no-no, best to rest up.
I justified a double flapjack mini-carb load yesterday, in anticipation of this evening's run which will most likely be my biggest MP session of the campaign, about 18 miles total with just under 14 @ MP. At least the snow's gone.
@kl - Tough luck. I know some good runners who have come back stronger and faster after a stress fracture but still a royal pain.
3 weeks countdown till the Manc marathon for me. Last big runs coming up at the weekend, and woke up this morning with sniffles. Blaming the little'un and his nursery fiends. Question is to rest up, or to do the tempo 13 miler this evening as planned..?
Managed the same session home after work last week in 1hr26, carrying a bag and suffering a little in the last few hilly miles north of the A406. Felt ok, with Strava estimating a GAP of 6.26/mi. Always a little dubious of Strava's over-compensation for elevation though, so would estimate more like a 6.30/mi. Not too bad in itself, but also not quite fast enough for the T2 = T1 x (D2/D1)^1.15 (per https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/the-running-blog/2017/mar/28/the-formula-for-marathon-success).
Aiming to go sub-3 on the day, so hoping that a decent 2 week taper, flat course, and race-day vibes can get me round. Wish me luck!
