Those carbon V swingarms were short lived for a reason

I bet. I imagine if something like M590 era XTR brakes were used, not much at guessing which would have given up first.
Is that a press fit BB though? Cannae see.

No no it’s BSA.
If you have one of the alu swing arms from a jekyll you can use it to convert a V frame in to a 160mm travel monster

I should have something similar to contribute to here soon, though obvs. not half as nice/ period correct.

British rough-stuffer? I mean that's obviously an outstandingly lovely example (didn't know Mercian had made any!), but there's something about the looks of the old rigid ones with acres of mudguard clearance that really does it for me.

This beauty is for sale near me. CAD$800 (GBP 450ish). I already have too many bikes or would nab it.
1988 Cicli Berma built with Columbus MS Gilco (the same crimped Colnago Master tubing).

That is lovely.

Love it. Did they build retro MTBs in big sizes? I've got a potential towpath commute in the future, and was thinking about picking up a cheap one to build up, but at 6'5" I ride a 25.5" road frame, and not sure what that translates to in MTB.

You might struggle there, the WTB on the last page would suggest, without resorting to custom component craziness. I guess there's only so long you can make a headtube in 531 before it becomes a noodle.
A big Surly LHT would look close but be a much stiffer ride.
Then again, if other people's dads were like mine in the 90s, the must be plenty of plus sized frames knocking about. I remember my sister's Raleigh activator being level with my chest. Don't think she ever did grow into that one!

Well I'm selling this frame... (and XTR loveliness)

It's cheap, 853 and pretty huge.

Right?! Yeah it’s a really good site, but stuff often ends up quite expensive...
That Nishiki and the more spendy Panasonic had me tempted to press ‘bid’.

Can anyone identify this frame from this grainy ass pic? Also is it massive? (I'm 6 foot)

No, it’s Giant.

I was gonna say you should check it in a catalog but hell I didn't find any Giant catalogs beside a 1991 one so... My tip would be an Escaper from around '92. It is quite massive indeed.
