  • With memes like that, Corbyn is obviously unstoppable.

  • I really don't want to be a Corbyn cheerleader, but I don't see the gulf here that others do.

Likewise. It's just that so much of the commenting and reporting distorts what he actually says that you have to try to correct it.

  • Even those who broadly support him would seem to require that a surprising amount of the time.

  • If you look closely it is just "lighting"(well I think it is)... but it's lighting that's been altered to make it look like a Russian hat, against that background, etc. etc. etc.

The reason the response is bollocks, is because folks referencing the hat are using it for shorthand for the whole display.

Honestly, I think the motivation was most likely a joke that got carried away. But that doesn't change how fucking awful it was for a show like NN from a public broadcaster to pull that shit. Even more so after the spy smear. An apology would have been more appropriate.

  • PM on R4 reported that Porton Down refused to state the nerve agent was manufactured by the Russians and only reluctantly agreed to "of a type developed by Russia".

Presumably the source for that was Craig Murray.

It'll be interesting to see what the OPCW have to say, especially if they are led by a Chinese delegate.

  • Hot of the press:

Scientists asked to give unequivocal answer to a question AND REPLY WITH A QUALIFIED ONE

    You've got to have a set of balls to say with a straight face;

It is very carefully worded propaganda. Of a type developed by liars.

whilst carefully bringing up Israel half way through the article on the subject of an attempted murder of a Russian/British spy.

  • Perhaps the BBC should even things up by featuring the Mayburger as a backdrop in the next Newsnight episode?

  • The fucking hat thing is such a colossal distraction

  • Someone I know keeps posting stuff like this on facebook. I really wish they wouldn't.

  • No , it's got a bias towards pointing out the inept position taken by Jeremy Corbyn.

  • He makes a valid point about nuclear weapons. I recommend reading Daniel Ellsberg's recent book The Doomsday Machine.

  • The BBC is definitely biased, most obviously an favour of remaining in the EU, which angered alot of people and probably aided the Leave campaign. The Tories regularly complain of bias against them, and threaten the BBC with cuts. As long as both sides are complaining, I think they're doing their job.

  • ^That would be the same pro-EU BBC that is criticised for giving so much air time to Farage?

  • Yes. People tend to remember the things they disagree with more clearly, and form a picture of a bias against their views.

  • The BBC gets a lot wrong but it’s generally the result of particular production teams having an unacknowledged bias rather than an institution-wide conspiracy. And all news media have the same problem in one way or another - the BBC isn’t by any means particularly bad, and they do try to balance things out, imperfectly. But people want it to be perfect and that just ain’t gonna happen.

  • It'll be interesting to see what the OPCW have to say, especially if they are led by a Chinese delegate.

They will test what it is, not where it was made or by whom. They don’t do that.

Deciding where it came from will rely on intelligence (i.e. judgements made on available info that seems ‘ok’). The UN might do this.

  • [Jcorbs] spoke at a rally in London against the Danish cartoons of Mohammed published in the Jyllands-Posten.

A liar? ... or (as is sadly so common) a politician quite inconsistent with his principles?

  • Strangely quiet here today.

  • about a shower of intellectually dishonest, hypocrite tories and shit stirring blairites accusing a man who's spent his entire life fighting racism of being a racist? fuck 'em.

  • a man who's spent his entire life fighting racism

Well, not all sorts of racism, apparently.

  • Spent his entire life fighting racism, or just nurtured and indulged specific client groups? Anti-racism IS a zero sum game.

  • He's naïve and always has been. He fails or refuses to believe that some Palestinian campaigners have anti Semitic view and are even holocaust deniers.
