  • Need to check with Mario Vaz or Bob Jackson or Argos etc and see what they can do.

  • I've had aluminium frames 'media' blasted in the past and have come out really nice.

  • Moderately abrasive variants include glass bead blasting (with glass beads) and media blasting with ground-up plastic stock or walnut shells and corncobs. [...] A mild version is sodablasting (with baking soda). In addition, there are alternatives that are barely abrasive or nonabrasive, such as ice blasting and dry-ice blasting.

  • I know from the Gillott marquee enthusiast that Gillott frames don't like sandblasting. There's some filling where the seat stays are brazed on the seat tube that gets eaten out when sandblasting.
That's why I'd like to avoid it.

  • Thanks. We'll see if any of them can perform some of those.

  • Sounds very sensible and well researched. After digging through old emails my alu frames were glass bead blasted should that info be of any use.

  • I think it was as I am assuming sandblasting an alu frame might damage it more than sandblasting?

  • That's an accurate assumption, where I took my frames they didn't feel comfortable sand blasting an alu frame so went with a less aggressive glass bead and I was very happy with the finish.

  • Cool, I'll probably ask that to whoever I send the frame to

  • Marquee enthusiast is someone who raves about big tents. ‘Marque’ is a posh word for company, brand, trading name.

Sorry it just really bugs me when people type Marquee Enthusiast. #mustgetoutmore

  • any idea who your sending this to for a paint yet?

  • You're right :) not sure why I got 'marquee' instead of 'marque' :)

  • Checking with Mario Vaz, it's been doing great work lately it seems. I'll get a quote from him and one from Bob Jackson and see.

  • if you want it blast cleaned in order to get paint and dirt off, you want to be looking at soda blasting. or consider getting it dipped.

  • I had Mercian strip, fill & paint a '52 frameset.

They know how to deal with old steel, and did a bang up job.

  • I know you've had that conversation already, but it looks lovely as is.

  • Aw sorry to be an arse. Blame autocorrect!

  • In the flesh not that much, particularly on the stays / track ends etc :/

  • No, it's not its fault :) it's mine.
I actually thought, all these years, it was 'marquee'

  • Long time no updates.

So I crashed this last year, and a week or so ago dropped it to Winston and Mario Vaz for repair and repaint in British green with golden bands on the seat tube and golden lug lining.

It has just been repaired by Winston. Mario is wiaiting for the shotblasters to be back from forlough and then he'll paint it.

    Here are the pics

    Warning nudes!!

  • Looking good @anidel can't wait to see it finished. Any thoughts on components?

  • Guess the ones I have already and I had on it when I crashed.
But with its own stem so need to find bars for it.

  • Here it is, finally the way it was.
