Could I buy I DT Swiss 3 Pawl and it would fit?
You should be so lucky! Whilst the cassette fitment is to a standard (obvs), the rest isn't so the odds of one manufacturer's freehub fitting another's hub is "modest". Freehubs aren't necessarily interchangeable between a manufacturer's own products.
Formula make hubs for several of the big brands, so Boardman (being a small brand) would have just picked one of the off-the-shelf options.
It's not certain that they make a steel freehub/a freehub with one spline faced in steel, which would be compatible with your hub, so I'd contact Formula or a Cannondale specialist (or try the Cannondale thread on here. You might also try Geoffrey Butler, as they list a number of Formula freehubs.
right so I got my cassette off and think I've found which freehub it is.
when I google the info on the freehub it comes back with Canondale mostly (do Canondale actually make hubs?) and some references to Formula as well so I guess these are Formula made for Canondale and then Boardman simply bought a batch?
My question now is does anybody know if I can buy a steel body freehub body to replace it?
