  • is that really what £250 worth of extra metal looks like?

    Apparently it's what about £5 of extra metal and amortising the programming time over a shorter production run looks like, to a Japanese person. To my machinist, 5 units came to less than twice the price of one, since the job is so front loaded with programming and set up. Sugino use more expensive metal that Gebhardt, and Japanese labour is more expensive than Czech, but I doubt whether their machines are any better, so it's hard to see where the money is going since a Gebhardt 66T track ring is €85.95 from Bike24

  • Yeah man, way out was quick, though quite a bit of traffic. The way back wasn’t much fun. My Elemnt had a breakdown for the first time ever so I had no times or speeds which was a bit annoying. Still knocked 2 mins off last year so I’m happy.

    Guiding the tyre past the pads when you're doing a fast wheel change. Redundant for anybody not served by a team car.

    Dear Sir,

    Re: The A63 Trunk Road (North Cave Interchange to Daltry Street Interchange – Prohibition of Cyclists Order).

    I wish to object to the above mentioned Transport Restriction Order.

    The stated reason for the ban – that cyclists cannot keep up with the traffic – could apply to any road, and therefore if applied here could extend to a general ban on cycling.

    While I realise that this is not the intention of this particular TRO, I feel it is important to recognise the principle at stake here. No government claiming any kind of green credentials can support restrictions on cycling.

    Although there always has been and always will be an element of danger in cycling, it is well established that inactivity is more dangerous to life than activity. There is a Latin proverb: ‘Plures convivio quam gladio’, or ‘more die by partying than by the sword’. This situation is a modern equivalent.

    The blurb states "RIM TYPE: Tubeless-ready clincher".

    But how do you secure the valve? Screwing the locknut down on the carbon fairing doesn't strike me as a good idea and I'm reluctant to cut a hole in it.

  • Securing valve shouldn't be such an issue. Push it through manually from inside when fitting. The pressure once it is inflated is pushing in the right direction so it won't come out. Lock ring is just to hold it steady, shouldn't be a problem on the fairing

  • That's surprising, I understood screwing the valve down tight was one of the cardinal rules of tubeless.

    The Jet tubeless valve kits have a washer which matches the rim profile. You shouldn't need to gronk on them, since the air pressure is holding the valve in place once they are inflated.

  • What do you want or expect from a Race HQ?.

    Our club , LVCC, is about to refurbish it's Essex Club Hut. It's one of the row of huts at Henham near the E1 start.

    The plan is to improve the facilities for competitors both before and after an event, make it easier to run events from there and make it a place that our members and competitors want to use.

    There are, however, conflicts between the desirable, the essential, the feasible and the affordable.

    Ideally, we'd like to have separate mens' and womens' changing facilities with showers and wash basins. At the moment we have two wash basins and a shower that's never used: it's all rather basic, old school but not in a good way.

    We also want to look at improving the space for signing on and where we post results and notices. If you've been there you'll know how cramped that area gets.

    So what do you want from a Race HQ ? Do the facilities in race HQs put you off taking part in an event or in even taking part in TTs?

    I 'd love to hear your views on this.

  • With much swearing, I've managed to get into a skinsuit, alone, in the front seat of a car. If I can do that I can get changed anywhere. But saying that, having more toilets, more changing spaces, etc. is always appreciated.

  • I ve seen that done @ 6 mile bottom..

    What would prefer: better changing space or showers? Not sure we can provide both.

  • Changing facilities distinct from the toilets would be nice: getting changed in the toilet stall, the air heavy with the stench of other people's shit and the floor splattered with piss, is primitive.

    I might just as well get changed at home otherwise.
