time in a proper bed
Or freezing your arse off outside in an inappropriate bivvy..

Would a bivvy bag set up be too cold in May?
-
• #7429
Too many variables to say.
I've frozen my arse off in May and been somewhat comfortable depending on bivvy location, time, what shelter was available, whether I was using a sleeping pad, clothing choice, fatigue.

I'll send a polite email to the organiser ;)

If there's sleeping available I'd use it. Lightweight bivvying sucks, particularly in the UK when it's getting down towards or below 0degC at night.

Agreed, I don't want to carry too much. Just thinking about those 'what if' moments.

I was only using the bivvy stuff to test kit out for racing. After a couple of freezing nosleeps I got better at location picking, used a warmer bivvy and invested in a sleep pad. So I have a range of options now depending on expected conditions. I'd still much prefer indoors on something soft though. I don't give a shit about going to sleep under the stars :)

Agreed, I'll find some suitable b&b'(pubs) on route

Trucker stops are a good shout. I've used the Eddie Stobart Motel just north of Carlisle on the Blackpool Glasgow Blackpool 600.

bivvy is fine at any time of the year! pick a site high up but out of the wind (very important), lie on something insulating, pack a sleeping bag good down to 3 degrees or so, you'll be fine.

Anyone riding the Kingston Wheelers 200k on Sunday?
I've broken my Audax bike, so will be riding the commuter with very antisocial mudguards :-/

My mate and I are riding this. I'm hoping the forecast isn't as cold as it's looking right now.
-
• #7443
Yay snow.

I wasn't, as I'm riding The Dean, but having negotiated with the wife (me saying I might give it a go, and her laughing saying I never will), I'm going to try to turn up and hope there's a few cards left.
I've never ridden more than a 300, so Dean+ECE and GB will sort of tell me if I'm ready for Brimstone.

Anyone planning on riding Mille Pennines in the summer?
-
• #7446
Was planning on ECEing to and from The Man of Kent 200 on Sunday to up it to a 300 but this weather looks pretty crap, not sure I can hack 15+ hours on the bike with -6 windchill
:/
It's March for fucks sake.

Weather report currently saying 0c and snowing for the Cambridge Pork pie. Worth it?
-
• #7448
I've entered the Dean but I expect I will be doing the Turbo instead

Nick (the organiser) says the roads will probably be fine.

I'm on for The Dean tomorrow. Currently holed up in the Travelodge stalking weather reports. Looks like it'll be a hard one.
Thank you, yes thats the one. Early May so will still be chilly at night.
