  • Spending my last night on holiday writing this up so here goes..

Over the years I've spent a lot of time collecting and building fixed wheel bikes, from classic track machines to fixed TT bikes, each of a different discipline or era. I don't really have space for many more bikes, but needed to finish off the collection with something geared and not practical.

So over the past year I've been looking for a geared 1x lo pro, classic steel tubing, a nice shape and a single shifter braze on (in the centre of the tube rather than the side if possible). I found one when I first started searching on ebay but forgot to put a bid in before work, gutted. I then toyed with the idea of splashing out on a 3Rensho, Zunow or maybe something classy but the frames I saw were either way too expensive, not the right colour or simply not my size. Nothing got me buzzing, so after a while I kinda forgot about the frame and just starting collecting parts for one instead and ended up with a small collection of Sugino 75 Road bits. Not the best old school group but whatever, its rad and gears are cheating anyways..

Got good news the other day, the lo pro was back up for sale so claimed it instantly. Its Branded Aende and built in the UK with Reynolds 653 tubing featuring beautiful curves, fluro fades, fillet brazed and has a single shifter braze on. Will look into getting more info when I'm back but heres a teaser -

During the search for a lo pro, I kinda started looking at more practical bikes, mtbs with disc wheels, road fixies and fixies with brakes and racks but after seeing @breso 's fluro pink Pinarello I got hooked on the idea of a cheap MTB to commute on, but with a rack and maybe in Max tubing.

Stumbled upon some Cinelli MTB's while looking for old cinelli stuff on ebay, so did a bit of research into them.. One of the best models seemed to The Machine version which came in black and was made from Max tubing, they super rare and don't come up for sale often but searched for one over 6 months. Even asking the famous Saarf if he had contacts or info on one for sale, but no luck in the end. I also cba to learn another forum, ie retrobike.

I did find this Cinelli MTB on ebay recently, the more humble/budget Rampichino model and eventually struck a deal with the seller. It sports a mix of fluro paint, got eyelets for a possible rack and is complete so ready to ride. It wont be staying how it is for long though as I've got big plans for it. Its currently being shipped over atm but heres a teaser for you -

    More photos when everything arrives.

Tldr. - two geared bike projects on a fixed gear bike forum from someone who hasn't touched gears in years.

  • Good teasers + your track record = subbed

  • Subbed. Pictures of S75 road parts please

  • Mmmmmmmmmm

  • These are both lovely things. Looking forard to seeing what you do with them!

  • ahhh was watching this on ebay myself - looking forward to see what you do with it!

  • MTB arrived this morning! Few scratches here and there but everything seems to be in full working order. Heres a few mediocre photos with the available light this morning -

General plan is to switch the group to something black, Deore LX has been recommended. Get some wheels with a black rim. Change a few other bits, better seatpost, bars and stem. Prob get a Salsa or an alternative like T-bone. Oh and maybe convert to 1x or 2x at least but will see how it goes. It currently sports a complete Exage 500 LX groupset.

  • Fruity!!

  • Rad rating 11

  • i can see now the end @Breso one is rad

  • Bigggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg

  • Modern 1x11 groupo, dirt drops and biggest rubber you can fit

  • P.S subbed.

  • looks like you got hold of the sibling to my aende, wondered what happened to that. 👍

  • That looks sick!

  • Nice! you got photos of your frame built up? yours was the bigger one right?

  • Don't know about modern, ultimately trying to keep this build decently cheap. Def no drops. Gonna get my hands on some carbon bars though :-)

  • subb'd

  • yup, mine's the bigger one... and 700 x 700. yours is 700 x 650, no?

  • Rad. 06 Fixie steez!
Yep mines the 650 front version

  • Minor update:

Got it built and running, took it for a spin and I bought some carbon mtb bars for cheap.

Took it for a couple spins and I really need to get some new brake pads, the fronts shockingly bad at braking and I don't think its the setup.. any recommendations?

  • Swiss stop are very good.

  • Thought they might be the go-to brand

  • Switched out the bars just now which I forgot are quite narrow, 50cm end to end. A good 6cm less than the original ones, which also weighed a tonne.. literally. Will see how they feel but they might be a bit narrow.

Seatpost is 26.4 which looks like it will be annoying to replace for something better. And that then leads to the liability of a seat clamp bolt.. I want to switch it out for something safer, modern and neat. Something like the below photo, does anyone know where I can get a decent looking one? -

  • Awesome projects! Chainreactioncycles has those seat bolts for sale.
