  • Had a good ride on the Arkose, it ride very much like the 56cm Specialized Sequoia much to my surprise as the front end geometry is near identical.

That make me happy as I originally want the Sequoia but can’t afford it being twice the trade price of the Arkose (and heavier).

  • Anything out there like the SS arkose but with cantis?

  • How about a derailleur that works with a 42t cassette and drop bar shifters you plonkers? Just look at how popular the RoadLink and TanPan are.

It sort of sounds like they've damned it with faint praise to me but we'll see when there's a proper review I guess

What the hell does that have to do with the bike itself? Trek owns Shimano now?

  • Probably in for some stick due to my antics in this thread but here's where I went today...

(The camera on this phone makes me want to cry. Aside from being incredibly low quality it seems to randomly change the saturation. I can only apologise. Unfortunately my nice phone and my camera have both broken at the same time)

^ Sign says "Mortar battle shooting and anti-aircraft range" and not to proceed if there are red flags flying. Not what you want to read when you're red-green colourblind...

  • Sorry, that was me complaining about Shimano, not Trek. Then I meant that they'd damned the bike with faint praise (unrelated to the chainring thing).

  • Fuji Jari seems OK. Mounts everywhere, nice enough welds, officially fits 42mm tires (but the fella at the shop said he had 45mm on his own build). Hoping to get 40mm slicks on with fenders, otherwise I'll need to buy new tires. Has internal routing to the BB but no guides, so that'll be fun.

Not wild about the blue accents but the paint itself is kinda cool - seems to be semi transparent.

Get some yarn and an air compressor. Tape off any other holes and blow the yarn into the hole you want your cable to enter, it'll exit the hole you didn't tape off without any hassle.

And use the yarn to pull your cable though of course...

  • Looks nice. For the photo's you can download Lightroom or something similar on your phone and play around a bit with lighting

  • Oh good one, hadn't thought of taping off vs the vacuum method.

  • I looked at them a while ago.
The angle at which the cable enters the caliper and the way the cable is routed on the chainstay can result on a tight cable angle.
I guess it could work better if the routing was external.
Planet X description says flat mount but picture shows post mount.

  • Spyres have the same issue. It can be remedied by going hydro (!), or to a point by using 160mm rotors

  • I'm quite sure these are 160mm rotors.

  • Oh, looks like you're right, in which case that routing on the frame is pretty bad

  • It can be remedied by going hydro (!)

    Yes but £££

  • Yes, I think it would be 140mm fitted directly onto the stay without the adaptor.

  • Yeah, wasn't meant as a serious response.

I did try these flexible noodles which were okay, but its still not a great solution

  • Do you even lfgss?

  • To be fair, no-one's suggested new bike time yet.

  • (Which is clearly the correct answer.)

  • No, me neither.
I guess they’re still better than not having any.

  • Aren’t disc brakes dead anyway?

  • @edscoble what are the chances we’re going to see other colours of the recent 2018 arkose 4? Is neon yellow it or reckon there’ll be other colourways?

Not that I’m really that opposed to the neon yellow...

  • The Neon yellow look better in person than in photos which look more like an overexcited toilet
