Subbed. Does the CAAAAD 10 have the necessary braze ons for racks and fenders and shit?
-
• #3
Will cable discs work?
Yes, ish
Can you set up tubeless with just a track pump?
Yes, ish
Will 30c tyres fit?
28 is fine, not sure about 30. Probably depends more on the surface you're riding on
and @Lanterne_Rouge nope, no braze ons at all
To elaborate, rear cable disc is a PITA, but doable. I think @PhilDAS found Dura Ace outer to be the best as its compression-less but a lot more flexible than other compression less cables.
Edit: actually found my old post about Spyres and looks like 160 rear might be better actually as it gives a clearer curve to the brake cable
Neither frame exit point is ideally angled for cables and anything over 140 mm discs. But again, it will work with 160 -

Will cable discs work?
yeah, not a lot of grip on 25-28mm tyres so juin tech/bb7 road will do just fineCan you set up tubeless with just a track pump?
smaller the tyre easier it is with track pump as far as i've dealt with theseWill 30c tyres fit?
maybe with narrow rim, I'd say 28 schwalbe pro one evo is the sweet spotWill it be any different to every other CAAD?
well this is harder :)Will I mess up the build multiple times?
im glad mine was set up at shop (cba to do hydraulics with inner routing)Will I shatter my spine on a broken road somewhere in Eastern Europe thanks to Cannondale’s impressively stiff frames?
i think it is suprisingly comfy especially with the setback carbon SAVE post from cdalelooking forward for the pics!

I was pretty sure there was a clearance photo on the Cannondale thread. I was right, but started 50 pages too early. Anyway, here is a CAAD10 with 30mm tyres

Looking forward to seeing it finished and to hear about the adventures ahead! Glad it went to a good home. Doug is a stand up buyer.
Couple pics as I had it setup;

Hey @Doug_91, I gave this frame slightly more than a passing glance when it was advertised, had nothing as original planned for it so seems it went to the better place. I’ll watch with interest.....

Sounds good, i'm doing something similar on a budget with an old CAAD 8 frame i had lying around, gonna use it for touring in Japan this summer. Just fitted 28c GK's and Hover bars, will let you know if it's made it more comfortable!

I used to go touring with a caad3 in Japan. It'll be great!
-
• #10
That’s a beauty. Yes, read that build - painful - going to get some DA cables for the rest and stick with jagwire at the front.
-
• #11
Ha! Yes, I’m tempted to take mine to my local shop (RadBikes)
-
• #12
Let me know how the GK’s work out!
-

Sounds like a good plan! I'm super happy with mine, finally got round to getting some 38mm carbon rims for it before christmas, so will have new shoes soon. Also, definitely take it to RadBikes if you have any issues, Tom and Ben are great. I could see if I can find that noodle I used for the front brake and drop it in there for you - it helped a bit from memory but I have hydro now

My knees are thanking me already. 52/36 11-28 on current bike down to 50/34 11-32 on all road CAAD.

Yours looks great. Did you have 160 or 140 rotors on the spyres - and are you still running them?
Anyone have experience with Juin R1’s? Have heard both very good and terrible things about them.
-
• #17
Niggling feeling I should have just bought DA cables and saved myself 20 quid. But onwards!

You can always keep these spare for another bike

They were 160 but only lasted a couple of months before Chak made me an offer too good to refuse for a full hydro setup. The stock pads are pretty crap, but with the right ones they were fine.
@Howard has used the Juin's I think without any major issues.
I seem to remember either Sweedee or Dick tried to set them up (or might have been Hy/Rd) on their CAADs and found the cable angle to be even worse than the SpyresEdit: just had a look and I think it must have been Hy/Rds I was remembering - the cable angle on the Juins looks fine, maybe even a touch better than the Spyres

Popping this here, in case anyone has a set of R1's: https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/318015/#comment14135433

Bin off that saddle, get some decent tyres and you’ve got a tidy bike. How is the braking performance?
-
• #23
Saddle needs levelling
Transcontinental as in you’re riding TCR on it? On gatorskins? -
• #24
I've ridden thousands of miles on that saddle without a problem, ever. If it aint broke...
...and its camo. I am looking at the Fabric lineup and thinking about getting their new 'spoon' but slightly flatter in profile.
Theres not much 'feel' on the brakes but I can't discern any reduced power. Think it'll take some getting used to. They're definitely not hydros but the bikes now in a good place for a future upgrade. Rad Bikes said clearance was v tight for the Jagwire's going through the bb.

Not on Gatorskins. New tyres were a purchase too far for this month.
Either Schwalbe G One Speeds or Pro Ones (sensible choice) or Gravelking SK's (because tan walls, although the clearance at the back with the FD is a bit tight with the 28 tubed on there at the moment.). I've never ridden a tyre that's not a Gatorskin so I'm looking forward to the gainz.
Yep, TCR on this.
Know anyone with the specific chainring removal tool for SL cranks? Have a 50/34 spidering to put on but RadBikes (or Parts & Labour cycles as they are now known) didn't have the tool to change them over.
Aim: combine all the best elements of a CAAD (ie fun and fast) and add ‘ride far’ elements to create a summer European mile-muncher on a fairly tight budget.
Will cable discs work?
Will it be a money pit?
Can you set up tubeless with just a track pump?
Will 30c tyres fit?
Will it be any different to every other CAAD?
Will I mess up the build multiple times?
Will I shatter my spine on a broken road somewhere in Eastern Europe thanks to Cannondale’s impressively stiff frames?
All these questions and many more remain to be answered...
I’ll be scavenging parts from my CAAD12 and vandalised CdF to create a single beauty.
So far I have:
CAAD 10 Black inc Disc, 58cm (thanks @iamalex)
TRP Spyres - off the CdF, they’ve seen better days but can’t fault them. Bought new Deore XT rotors, centre lock, 160mm.
Wheels - Prime Race Disc - fairly wide, tubeless ready, from Wiggle, just over 150 quid.
105 Group - with new 11-32 cassette and med cage derailleur on their way to save my knees. Cannondale SI chainset with 50-34 spiderring I found on sale.
Specialized HOVER expert bars. Divide opinion. I’ll try them.
Tyres: undecided but 28-30c and maybe tubeless
Saddle: trusty charge spoon - or new Fabric equivalent.
Aim to have it finished within the month.
Pic from @iamalex, will take my own soon...
