Had my inaugural spin in the Gore jacket. It's absolutely excellent! Temperature was magnificent throughout a brisk enough 40km jaunt. It was about >5°c with a really dense freezing fog and at one point in the ride I likened my condition to my mate as the feeling of getting into bed under a nice down duvet in cold room. I had an old Rapha x Paul Smith wool jersey on under it with an awful lot of stuff in the back pockets as I've sacrificed my saddle bag for a bottle holder on my fixed gear so the jacket did ride up a bit over the bulging back pocket load. That being said I'm about 10kg over my normal weight at the moment so that was no help to the situation, all in all I'm delighted with the fit and the breathability is excellent. It didn't rain so I didn't get to test the waterproofedness but it's Gore so it's obviously great.
The only dampener on the outing was that in typical shit luck fashion I clipped in on a wheelchair ramp to avoid scuffing the bottom of my shoes on some deep pebbles outside the departure spot and promptly fell over when the front wheel waded into the deeper than expected pebbles landing me on my arse and scuffing the elbow of my brand new jacket and puncturing my low mileage Northwave tights. It's only a tiny scuff on the elbow and it hasn't punctured the material but I've no doubt the waterproof nature of Gore material has been compromised by my stupid and embarrassing off.
This is why I can't have nice things.
I'm now contemplating getting another one while on sale by returning the Medium sized one I ordered for an exchange for another Large one though. It's a really top notch jacket and I'd happily wear it exclusively as my go to rain jacket for at least two jackets worth!
