I’d not be able to follow through on option 2.
I've noticed in NOLA quite a few trucks have old rusty bonnets, but are otherwise normal. I guess it's a rat style.
Could you try something similar? It might be a way of mitigating your need to carry out expensive work to make a car perfect, and would give you a creative outlet.
