  • And?

  • Getting a quote to deal with the rust in all four wheel arches

  • Enjoyed this mini series, don't worry it's not as 'out there' as some previous links.

  • He’s not selling it! I was just saying I was impressed by it.

  • Is Tavarish the guy converting a particular AMG to manual that was never offered in a manual?

  • A bad sign? I’ve got rust in the rear arches on my Saab which is apparently very common and a fairly easy fix, rest of the car is sound though according to mechanic.

This merc should be newer than bad paint era no?

  • Yeah, but he’s lost interest in that by the looks. Currently sticking gold tape round the engine bay of a Gallardo.

  • I should read some A2 build threads!

Shame about the ride quality, I was about to make some suggestions but I don’t think there’s anything I could possibly suggest that hasn’t been tried already! Although... has anyone tried air ride??

  • Oh right, I’ll give him a watch anyway, but like you’ve said, I’m already annoyed...!

2007, so yes I think so. My belief is that these bits of the arch have been blasted with grit from the tyres - and they're standard paint, rather than stone-chip, which has had predictable consequences.

The chap who is painting the 911 is actually a Mercedes specialist - I sent him a load of pictures and his response was "standard Mercedes rust around the arches but should be ok to sort out the only thing is I may not be able to keep it just to the lip so may have to blend into the lower half of the rear doors for colour match.
Regarding the bonnet yes it would be recommended to blend the wings."

I find quite funny, yet am also horrified by, "standard Mercedes rust".

Anyway, I've asked him for a quote and will send that straight to the owner (he asked to see it), and then we'll see if we can negotiate around that.

  • 10 grand on a rusty run about?! Don’t do it!!

  • Post of the year if not life time of this forum :)

  • Use leftover Porsche paint. It'd do, right?

  • “They all do that sir”, or something

  • It'd do, right?

This is not a phrase @dammit understands...

  • Went to see the C55 today, nice car, well screwed together, smaller than the Volvo on the inside

Shirley you're not surprised by that.

Rust though, what was Mercedes doing back then?

  • YUNo Octavia VRS estate on HP?

  • Because if I get the promotion I'm after I'd have to leave almost immediately for the US and be there for a minimum of two years.

  • A lady I work with bought an Audi on PCP and then got shipped to NZ with work for 2yrs. She effectively ended up renting it to a friend of hers while she was out there, and then gave it back when the terms ended and had to replace all 4 alloys. It ended up costing her a shit load.

  • @Dammit Big muscle truck then?

  • Yeah, keen to avoid that.
