• I'm looking for a front rack with pannier support + platform, but I don't have mid-fork bosses. I used p-clips in the past but I didn't find them reliable (slides down towards thinner part of blade, becomes loose). I have SO MANY questions:

    • Is a rack attached to brake + mudguard eyelets less stable than a rack attached to mid-fork + mudguard eyelets?

    • It seems like Soma used to do this (evidence here ), but they updated their design to this. Perhaps this answers my previous question?

(If your fork doesn't have mini rack eyelets, you can still use the rack. This is just for additional stability and safety)

    • This picture is exactly what I want:

It's the Soma again, However, Soma website says the rack is for a max of 10kg. I will probably carry double of that. Will I die?

Any other racks out there? Thanks!

  • If you can cope with a slightly smaller platform you could use a Surly Nice rack? The front one is rated to something silly (32kg according to Surly) and will actually fit full size panniers just fine if you want. Platform is big enough to add a basket if you want extra space for big fluffy stuff.
Is this for the tandem? We use a Surly Nice on ours and it's great.

  • Yes, it's for the tandem. I don't think the Surly Nice can be mounted to the caliper eyelet, can it?
