It might, but only by introducing new problems. Just use properly matched parts.

Well, I don't really know was the original spec of the stem was as it came from a parts bin and has been stretched to fit around bars. But I take the point and will investigate.
Also you have probably assumed that I torqued the bolt up to spec but my torque meter broke recently so it was all guesswork #skilled_mechanic

I think they're 25.x mm bars in a 26.0 stem. So that would explain them moving. If I tighten them up a bit more will that sort it?
