Fucking bonkers isn't, Charlie wasn't allowed a lapse in concentration was he.
Obviously we'll never know, but given how much of the case focused on the illegality of his bike, it's not unreasonable to think he would have otherwise got away with a suspended sentence.

Remorse and readiness to comply with the investigation is also factored into sentencing guidelines.
I seem to remember that CA embellished various things and also showed no remorse at all, according to the judge.
It might seem weird at first to consider that remorse might lead to a shorter sentence but prison isn't just about punishment, it is also about protection of the public and somebody who demonstrates remorse is less likely to be a repeat offender.

re. Tesla and space junk discussion a few days ago.
We calculate a dynamical half-life of the Tesla of approximately 15 Myr, with some 22%, 12% and 12% of Roadster orbit realizations impacting the Earth, Venus, and the Sun within one half-life, respectively. Because the eccentricities and inclinations in our ensemble increase over time due to mean-motion and secular resonances, the impact rates with the terrestrial planets decrease beyond a few million years, whereas the impact rate on the Sun remains roughly constant.
i.e. there's a 22% chance of that Tesla hitting Earth within the next 15 million years, with the chance getting smaller as time goes on. Hence the nonchalance of various astronomy people regarding space junk.

Or compare with Christopher Jones.
Alliston shouldn't have been on the road, was doing 18mph, killed someone, Manslaughter and 18 months in prison.
Jones had convictions for seat belt and speeding offences and had lied to DVLA about his diabetes. Jones shouldn't have been on the roads. Jones was speeding again, killed someone, walked free from court:

I feel its worth pointing out that the prison sentence is for lying to investors, not any of the other pretty deplorable things he's done

Also didn't the woman who brought the lawsuit admit that she got her money back with the right amount of interest, it was just that he had put it into a different company than he said he would during the investment.

I think it was more down to securities fraud. In particular, producing fake accounts to hide hedge fund losses and raising investment under false pretences to keep the charade up.

Unfortunately, like many things, trying to explain this to people in a logical manner rarely works.
Last time it was brought up it was suggested that the final stage powering the Tesla should've had enough fuel to direct it into the sun to prevent it from causing any damage...

I don't understand the logic of this, either. What damage is the sun supposed to be causing that a little Tesla like that could prevent? :)

Enter my law office, and on my walls, above my desk, staring and glaring at my clients, is a stuffed, six-foot steel blue Marlin. Below the fish is a plaque that reads: “Behold the beautiful, majestic Marlin. He would not be here if he had not opened his mouth.”
See also Charlie. The best free legal advice you can get is to just shut up.

Saw something on road cc about mr vine and buses... would have thought anyone cycling frequently understands you want to be on the right of any bus, they can and will pull in at intervals

I would imagine this is a godsend to May. She seems to thrive on the sort of challenges where she sees the need for a loud voice of discontent, but where she can plausibly deny anyone access to the details of what she is actually doing about it.

Given how little we did in response to MH17, I’d be surprised if we do much in response to Skripal.

Nah, I reckon she's on top of this. Just replace the word 'Home office' in the lower left hand corner with 'Goverment' and we're good to go.
Fucking bonkers isn't, Charlie wasn't allowed a lapse in concentration was he.
It wasn't like this prick went down the classic route of denying death by dangerous driving and admitting death by careless driving, but still he gets a suspended sentence.
Just watch I bet the fedex driver convicted of 8 counts of death by careless driving will get a sentence about the same as Charlie A.
