  • Aim: combine all the best elements of a CAAD (ie fun and fast) and add ‘ride far’ elements to create a summer European mile-muncher on a fairly tight budget.

    Will cable discs work?
Will it be a money pit?
Can you set up tubeless with just a track pump?
    Will 30c tyres fit?
Will it be any different to every other CAAD?
Will I mess up the build multiple times?
Will I shatter my spine on a broken road somewhere in Eastern Europe thanks to Cannondale’s impressively stiff frames?

All these questions and many more remain to be answered...

I’ll be scavenging parts from my CAAD12 and vandalised CdF to create a single beauty.

    So far I have:

CAAD 10 Black inc Disc, 58cm (thanks @iamalex)

TRP Spyres - off the CdF, they’ve seen better days but can’t fault them. Bought new Deore XT rotors, centre lock, 160mm.

Wheels - Prime Race Disc - fairly wide, tubeless ready, from Wiggle, just over 150 quid.

105 Group - with new 11-32 cassette and med cage derailleur on their way to save my knees. Cannondale SI chainset with 50-34 spiderring I found on sale.

Specialized HOVER expert bars. Divide opinion. I’ll try them.

Tyres: undecided but 28-30c and maybe tubeless

Saddle: trusty charge spoon - or new Fabric equivalent.

Aim to have it finished within the month.

Pic from @iamalex, will take my own soon...

  • Will cable discs work?

    Yes, ish

Can you set up tubeless with just a track pump?

    Yes, ish

    Will 30c tyres fit?

28 is fine, not sure about 30. Probably depends more on the surface you're riding on

and @Lanterne_Rouge nope, no braze ons at all

To elaborate, rear cable disc is a PITA, but doable. I think @PhilDAS found Dura Ace outer to be the best as its compression-less but a lot more flexible than other compression less cables.

Edit: actually found my old post about Spyres and looks like 160 rear might be better actually as it gives a clearer curve to the brake cable

Neither frame exit point is ideally angled for cables and anything over 140 mm discs. But again, it will work with 160
