  • A long downhill followed by a short uphill. Shut your eyes.

  • I have one of these https://www.vincita.co.th/collections/brompton-bags/products/b132b-soft-transport-bag-for-brompton-bike and tend to borrow one of these https://www.vincita.co.th/collections/brompton-bags/products/b206b-garment-bag-for-b132b (although I'll be buying one when I get round to it). They're OK although the airline did break it last time it was used (but accepted responsibility and replaced with a new bag). The bag comes easily in normal checked suitcase size for most airlines so doesn't need to go as sports goods/oversized, etc.

Stick the brompton in folded, a bit of bubble wrap on some of the protruding areas, use the garment bag filled with clothes to pad out the top and sides and there is also space to slide a couple of bags with clothes, etc down the sides. I normally go with a C bag down one side and a rucksack down the other.

SJS have the hard version of that bag available https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/transporting-bicycles/vincita-b132c-transport-box-for-brompton/

  • interesting those first 2 bags .. can they be hauled on the bike while riding? I have a couple of miles ride from home to station?

Where can I buy those in the UK?

The hard version wont be ideal in my case.

  • If you have a rack you may just about manage but they're reasonably padded so don't fold that small.

I think you'll struggle to find anything that protects the bike, lets you pack in some luggage and you can also ride to/from the station.

There's this one which packs into a rucksack https://www.amazon.co.uk/RockBros-Travel-Folding-Bicycle-Transport/dp/B072X61N9B but not sure what you'd do with the rest of your luggage or how protective it is.

  • but not sure what you'd do with the rest of your luggage

I hate a t level challenger so I think I can manage this bag plus my stuff

    or how protective it is.

This is a concern but I can put some bubble wrap in the backpack and pack it with in the RockBros bag.

Anyone here has experience with the Rockbros bag?

And can brompton ever go in as cabin luggage?

  • Ah you have the best brompton bits so I don't know I havent gone the further non brompton modding way. I have a pre 93 and 2008 levers have improved the side pull brakes. More than that I don't know. Swissstop or koolsave brake pads?

EDIT Disc brakes and wider hub wheels - Kenisisbikes

  • Anyone got any links to ti seatposts (extended) or have one for sale. All this talk of weight saving has me wanting one...

  • Flew with a Brompton back to Malaysia, just placed it in a IKEA Dimpa bag courtesy of +itsbruce

    Bike arrived alright! :D

  • Can I just take my Brompton to any shop to get it serviced or do I need a specialist Brompton store? Any reccos for East london please?

  • Best to go to a Brompton dealer I'd have though. Mamachari?

  • not necessarily a Brompton dealer, but someone who knows them well is best. I'm in N16 if that's any good, and we do loads of 'em, as well as owning a couple.

  • Nope, just a handle with care sticker on either side - must have worked wonders with the baggage handlers ;)

  • Try Push http://www.pushcycles.com/

Never dealt with them on Bromptons specifically but they are genuinely a nice bunch!

  • wow .. some luck!

  • I thought the publicity photos looked great, but somehow when in front of you the various parts just didn't cohere and it looked a right mess. Will have another look when I'm next in the area and see if I was just having a bad day...

  • Push cycles do service bromptons. Would recommend

  • another shout out for Push.

  • Yup Push have fixed my Brompton numerous times and are lovely.

  • I put a link up a while ago

  • Had to search back for that conversation, and it seems to seatposts have evolved since then, I’ve found this one on eBay which is a decent price,

Just wondering what the difference in quality is between these and some of the ones that cost twice/three times as much that you can get from the states..

  • The headclip will add some weight on. I’ve bought three in the past. One for myself , one which was a present and then a replacement for the present as I realised it wasn’t as light a mine.
They are a thing to marvel when attached to a ti saddle and removed from the frame , which is another point the bottoms are not flared. Never been a problem for me.

  • Any recommendations for a usb chargeable light that you can mount on the front brake mount where theres by default a reflector?

  • The J&L ones are made in China/Taiwan, I’ve bought some of their stuff before and it’s pretty good. I’ve no complains about my J&L post. Bear in mind that the Brompton titanium seat posts, forks and rear triangles were made in Russia and Slovakia and they were good enough for Brompton.
I personally prefer the plain post with a Brompton pentaclip to the ones with the twin clamp bolts, as I’ve found that they tend to stick out a bit and tear the sides of the saddle when you sit on them - I had a Flite cut in 4 places after one ride on that type of clamp.

  • Been recently commuting on my 3 speed Pashley Guvnor, it's fun to ride but quite a work out as it's heavy as an elephant.
Would like a folding bike to replace it for commuting, as might be needing to introduce a train ride as part of my commute soon.
Seriously considering a Brompton, might even try and have a go on on of their electric models if I can get to a shop, the idea of sweat free/no shower/no having to change clothes commuting does appeal quite a lot.
