  • Ironically I totally was swayed by the internet points of throttle bodies.

  • FOR SHAME

  • I bought an overwhemingly average and boring but very adequate Mitsubishi ASX six months ago. I got slated. Its awful they said. Useless as a 4x4 they said. You dont need a 4x4 anyway they said. Should have bought a hummer they said. Should have bought a golf they said.

It's a great car. And last weekend whilst the rest of the South West of England were stuck in their cars on the A303 for 20 hours freezing their asses off because they thought it was a good idea to go on a roadtrip in the middle of a red weather warning and blaming the emergency services for not having arctic exploration vehicles available on demand to rescue them, my grifriend was the only midwife on her ward that managed to make it in to work in deepest darkest Somerset for her nightshift without the help of the territorial army.

I'm chalking that one up as a win.

  • This is my car. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

RS4 is next for me when my current Avant TDI hits 100k.
Would kill for an RS6 - have driven one on a track... that engine note/bark.

  • I like that, is it like alternative truth? The drop link debacle show what you said is wrong, and nusrseholiday and I were right. The chaps explained to you what the reason for altering the drop links lengths were. As I said at keepsaying go buy the bosch blue book.

Bi / Twin turbo set up, on a car that I had owned, still wanted to call names then?

How are you rear suspension bushes on the volvo? What about the fuel injector discussion where you were wrong even when shown to be wrong you still continued with being wrong. That was a true farce.

Have read the time that you damaged the valves on the volvo, sort of shows your ineptitude.

But go for the name calling, show what you are.

  • Which 5 series?

Have had 2 E34 525 one the later manual petrol and one the earlier diesel.

  • Hindsight is brilliant isn't it ;)

  • My job here is done, off to the next thread...

  • Which was?

  • I'd suggest the Rant thread...

  • I'm sorry chaps, I really don't want to go full Uber Gruber in this thread, so I'll rein it in.

After a final word from our sponsors, anyway:

Lynx, I suspect you are aware of what a contemptible ruin of a man you are, my suggestion is that you sort yourself out.

I don't think you can, I think you'll go to your death being unworthy of hatred, but hey - maybe there's hope that you could, one day, be less of a cunt.

  • Tbf to the usual contributors, there was some heavy trolling on your queries.

If you were pissed off by anything I said, I apologise, I don’t intend to rub you the wrong way.

At the time you said you were looking for a car with a loftier driving position because that’s what your gf wanted. I don’t think I argued with that, I just disagreed with that concept. I think the reason why SUVs are so common in this country is because they do give you that experience but I also think that it’s not needed. I personally think, so this is entirely my opinion, that it contributes to the don’t give a fuck attitude of lots of drivers. I’m not saying that your gf is like that, but I think a lot of SUV drivers are like that. That elevated position and the overall size of the vehicle conveys an image and feeling of safety that I think is there but can also adequately be provided by a saloon, hatchback, or estate car.

With regards to your final point, any 4WD with a proper diff, electronic or mechanical, with winter tyres should have been absolutely fine in all the recent conditions. Crediting that to SUV performance I think is misguided, all you’re getting is a raised ride height allowing greater ground clearance. As would a lowered MK7 Golf R on semi slick tyres if my instagram is to be believed.

Yes your new car comes across as a bit bland to me, but it’s doing what you want, so that should be the end of it, it’s just not my cup of tea, but who cares what I think?

Should you have received more helpful advice when you asked? I guess if the people on here who deem themselves regular contributors want to be seen as helpful, then yes you should have, but let’s get to the real discovery, it’s a dirty secret to let out but let’s face it:

I don’t think any of us are the font of knowledge that we think we are.

We all might have particular niches we know a lot about, we all probably spend too much time on the internet reading about cars, watching videos, but we’ve all got a bias towards what we actually know about. None of us are writers for AutoCar or whatever the run of the mill magazine is these days, a lot of experience is internet experience or hearsay apart from some really specific stuff.

That’s how it comes across to me anyway.

I’ve probably only helped 1 person in 9 years and he’d probably argue the volume and value of the help I’ve given, and that’s @jambon

  • My feelings will never be hurt by the internet. I am untrollable.... no need to apologise.

You always gotta remember though, for every person you see in an SUV who you think is a cunt, there will be another person who looks at you in your comically low MX5 thinking you are also a cunt! There is always someone out there who thinks you/I am a cunt for driving whatever type of car it is we choose to drive. All I’m saying is there is absolutely no point in judging people by what car they choose to drive.... Just live and let live.

This is coming from someone who used to drive down the M4 at 120mph in an M series BMW on a daily basis.

Everybody is a cunt at somepoint in their life. Let’s all just be cunts together and accept each other’s life choices.

  • Have you pantiesniffers finished your session yet?

  • I agree and I guess I like to think I’m not judgy but it would appear I am.

Also it’s not really that low anymore. About average ride height for an MX5!

  • fuck you mate.

What time you going to Goodwood? And which day?

  • Fuck you too, pal.

Going down Saturday. Fish and chips/pints in the Ship(?) in bosham if you fancy it. Then all day Sunday. Drive back up Monday.

    You?

  • Oh ffs. I’m going Saturday. Totes error.

  • New RS4? Going saloon or estate? I’ve not seen an RS4 in Nardo Grey yet, only RS6s... hint hint

  • I have always gone Saturday, but fancied a change this year. Gimme a shout when you are done. Pop around for a pint. I am staying in the collider house in bosham.

  • That’s me attempting to trigger @hoops based on the painter thread. SOZ MATE.

  • If I had £1 for every cunt that emailed me asking for their bike to be painted Nardo fucking grey....

  • How about red and white?

  • What’s going to be the 2018 trend?

  • I am definitely not a font of knowledge. I am however a font full of opinions, which is almost as good. Sometimes I can actually find out facts however.

I haven't posted anything really about my Aston because so far it's the most reliable car I've ever owned and it's completely lovely in every way that matters to me. It was a low-mileage car with one millionaire owner, so it was basically like new. As you say, things being like new isn't that entertaining. It seems silly to come on here and say "yep, everything's still fine."

I did drive it to Chianti and back (it used many many tanks of petrol), and I could produce a video of a somewhat hot lap of Rheims if you wanted.

I kerbed one of the alloys at a peage in France (should have bought a Sanef tag; now I have) and there is a small rattle at high speeds from somewhere around the passenger door, but that's about it. Maybe the next service will show up some amusing expenses worthy of a post or two.
