• They won't touch it now it's 'vintage'... Went down to the Brisbane Apple store to see if I could get recovery mode working and BINGO!!

    Only problem was I got the grey screen halfway through booting... Must be a hardware problem, safe mode won't work either... So annoying, at least I got the backups so I should probably be thankful for that... There are 1.5Tb of SSDs in this machine, how do I move them across to a new machine?!? I'm toying with the desktop plus laptop idea but realise that's completely stupid... Will have to bite the bullet and stump up the cash for as powerful machine as I can get... Will probably go down to a 13", enough power for Logic X? I'm assuming Adobe CC will be fine as it still ran beautifully on the old machine...

    Gonna give the old one one last shot with my local Mac repair place if the Genius Bar say it's a goner... Replacement logic board could do the trick and give me another year or two of use out of the old girl...

  • same happened to my MBP 2011, board replacements seemed to go for £400 then, some extra ££ you could get a working computer (same model) to transfer SSD and RAM, if not just get a cheap SSD case and get the SSD as an external for the new one. As you well say you could still
