Beautiful and rare Giovanni Professional frameset for sale. Made out of Reynolds 531C tubing and build by master frame builder Jan van Dalen. As you may know Jan van Dalen was one of the best frame builders in the Netherlands, he also builded frames for his own brand Duell and later on for Presto. Frames build by Jan were among the best frames that money could buy in the 80's and 90's. I contacted Jan van Dalen because I suspected that this frame also was build by him.
He told me that Martelly who normally builded the frames for Giovanni had delivery problems at the time. Therefore Eddy Martens, owner of Martelly asked Jan if he could help them, therefore he builded some frames with the so-called "pecked" four-leaf clover .... "I engraved it myself in the lugs ... 1000 years ago.! " He also told me the following :"I always used that square brake bridge. Was not really necessary with those Cinelli brackets but that was my method ... "
It is an Beautiful lugged steel frameset with a lot of panto's and neat details like the square brake bridge that only Jan and some other master builders like Peter Serier and Jan Legrand used. It also has a Cinelli spoiler bracket.
The frameset has some touch ups but overal condition is very good, no dents or cracks. Condition of the chrome and paint is good, decals have some damage. It has an British threaded bottom bracket, headset is included in the sale. Nice piece of Dutch Cycling history, you won't find another one like this.
Dimensions:
Top tube (cc): 51 cm
Seat tube (cc): 53 cm
headset: 10.5 cm
Rear distance: 126 mm
