  • Potentially a shed/studio. Bike wise not much, maybe adding another Surly to the stable, funds dependent, hence the flogging of the Equilibrium.
The panniers are very simple, about 8ltrs each, roll top, black and camo. Also having Jon make me a front bag soon.

  • New project incoming, thanks to @Aches.

  • Details? Is this a pacer?

  • Yup!
    Spec list:
    Pacer 50cm f/f
    Mavic open pros/ zenith hubs
    Spa cycles td2 cranks/ Hope 40t n/w ring
105 5700 shifters and rear derailleur
    Spesh shallow drop 44cm bars
Pro plt 90 or 100mm stem (whichever fits best)
    Tektro R539 calipers
Genesis offset seatpost/ Spesh Toupe saddle
Un55 bb (have a 113mm in the shed, may be too wide)
FSA headset ( comes with frame, will replace eventually with Hope)
Tyres, undecided, have gravel kings and gravel king sks ( 28mm and 32mm respectively) may plump for Paselas in 32mm, just because they go on forever and I've only ever had one puncture whilst using them.
    Think that's everything?

  • Sounds good!

  • Sounds nice.

I agree on paselas but if you fancy a change then planet X have jack browns for cheaper. I've just bought a set for my pompino.

Also, probably a preference thing, but I'd use a wider rim.

  • Yeah, the open pros are a bit slim, but I have em already, got em about 4 years ago when I rode nowt wider than 25mm tyres, and can't afford new wheels this year. Once they've worn out I'll certainly go wider, either the new open pros (I get a good discount) or summat like dt Swiss r460s.

  • Pacer has arrived. Spent last night building it up inbetween nursing Mrs Tea, she had a horrific visit to the dentist yesterday, fancy booking an extraction on the day she knows a new frame is arriving!
Just downtube cable stops away from being finished. Pics when it's done, and it isn't pissing down.

  • Finally picked up the downtube cable adjusters from lbs. Thanks to Joe aka @Aches for letting me purchase his Pacer frameset.

  • And just for updates sake, a very tired and weather beaten looking Cross Check.

  • And from Jon of Mack Workshop fame, custom panniers. Need to clean up the mounting hardware and maybe spray with Hammerite. Well worth the pennies. Gonna buy off him next pay day, handlebar bag and road roll, and then custom handlebar bag, slightly bigger than my Carradice, so I can take a book and CD to work.

  • They look great can we see more pics

  • Not at the moment, took my rack off the Cross Check, to fit the mudguards, and it never went back on, will refit when weather gets better and guards come off and gravelking sks go back on.

  • Hi, could you share the front light bracket setup?
Interested on how it is attached.

  • It's a bodge, will take a pic for you. Basically a Cateye light bracket mounted to a bit of bent steel, mounted to the bottom of the rack, held stable at the front by a couple of small cable ties.

  • Looks sick, missing it already, the semi cross build was my favorite set up

  • Cheers. Haven't ridden it much due to local council's love of spreading copious amounts of salt everywhere. Was considering a more roadie tyre but had the sks in the shed, it so good.

  • looking forward for the pics as I have the same bracket and my rack has no mounting place for them.

    Cheers!

  • Yeah tell me about it, i hacked it on my SS for work, but really messed up the chain n stuff, i had a blast though.

I would highly recommend 32c gators in the summer.

  • The chain on my Cross Check was a nice tea colour until last night, when I gave it a bloody good clean and oil.
I think for the summer months I'll be running 32mm gravel kings (file tread). Never really got on with gators, didn't feel like they gripped enough, maybe back when, I was running too high a pressure. Also like Spesh Roubaix pros 30/32mm. Will wait and see what summers like before I commit though.

  • I find they roll real nice, light, puncture proof and comfortable, they do grip well on a hot day, but yeah they aren't very grippy in some conditions, they did well in the snow though

  • Very basic, but it works.

  • Considering a few changes for the cross check. My 105 rear derailleur has a bent cage, so may swap for xt, giving me the option of a slightly larger cassette. Anybody used the Fairweather/Nitto bullmoose bars? Are the ones on planet X the same as freshtripes, px says 125mm, ft says 90mm reach. And last but by no means least, a colour change, bored of black, so ral6003 it is. Although may consider other earthy tones if you can offer up summat nice.

  • All change. Want new wheels for the Pacer. It's a tough choice as I love both my Surlys, but as they no longer make Pacers, and I've always wanted one, the Cross Check is going up for sale along with a Thomson X4 100mm stem to fund the wheel build. Will put in classifieds later. But just so you know black 52cm f/f, cane creek headset, black Surly seat post clamp, downtube cable stop/adjusters and drop out bolts included, £200 posted. Thomson X4 100mm black stem, £35 posted.
    Cheers. Jon
