Paid £50 for my GK on here, used but looks as good as new, will replace the DA 7410 i haven't been that impressed with. I've heard the Tange Falcon is good for the price and the cartridge bearings are both better and more available than the Stronglight A1 versions.

Thanks Jono, waiting for a reasonably priced CK is unpredictable and a potential scrumfest. I'm probably more interested in available off the shelf. Anyone any experience with BBB headsets?

The people at East Central Cycles recommended me a Tange Falcon for VFM, which is about £20 online.

+1 for the falcon, bargain and pretty decent quality bearings.

Lots of love for the Tange falcon, it's certainly in poll position at the moment.

Best value for the money, either Tange Falcon (stack height 38mm) or Tange Levin (stack height 33.3mm) Copies of the old Campag record. Have used several of these all without any problem.

Can't fault the Stronglight A9. That would be my choice. If you can find one with open roller bearings rather than sealed ones I think it's a smoother headset and stays done up for longer.
I've had a couple of Tange ones, a Levin and a Falcon on different bikes. They're ok but both never really turned completely smoothly from lock to lock without tight spots and they're quite difficult to find that happy place between too tight and rattly loose.

Or if you want it in black then you can get it for £7.50 plus post on Planet X

*edit, having looked at google, you can get the black steel version even cheaper on ribble

I also reckon the A9 is good. I had one on a bike for a while, then it got nicked. The whole bike, not just the headset. Imagine that? Thanks.

What some people will do just to get a headset!

Nice headset. I'll do a bit more research on that.
I'd like opinions (peferrably experienced based) on the best vfm headsets under £50. I know i can pick up a campy record in that budget but i wondered if there is anything else worth considering?
